Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 9:00
A. M.
Monday, September 9, 1935. All members were present.
Minutes of meeting of September 3rd were read and approved.
Requisitions bearing numbers 08614 to 08629, inclusive, were approved.
Claims in the amount of 4593.84 were allowed and ordered paid, also
payroll
for the first half of September amounting to $16,815.73.

FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present:
Matters pertaining to his department were discussed and, as there were
no matters of importance, no action was taken.
The Chief made a report that truck No. 2, located at Thomas and Walnut
Streets, was struck by a light delivery truck while responding to a fire
north on Walnut Street. The damage to the apparatus was approximately
four dollars and repairs were made in the Fire Department. No action was
taken in reference to this case and the report was ordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. quails present:
Matters pertaining to his department were discussed, but as nothing of
importance was brought up no action was taken.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
Matters pertaining to recent request of the Mayor regarding gambling
devices were discussed.
A letter from Mandel Altfeld, 527 South William Street, calling
attention to pin machines which ' have been in use in the City for some time
were not strictly gambling. The Board discussed this thoroughly with the
Chief and he was instructed to bring Mr. Altfeld in for a conference and
inform him that these pin machines will be tolerated until it is found
that technical gambling results.
The Chief was instructed to call in Louis Curl, operating the Lincoln
Hotel, to inform him that the Administration expects him to keep his
gambling operations closed.'
The Board discussed with the Chief recent damage to Police cars and
instructed him to have officers Tholander 'and Rzepka, who had accident
with Car No. 3 recently, and Frank Ferger, who brought in Car No. 11 a
few days ago with rear axle and drive shaft torn out, present at the next
Board meeting on Monday, September 16th to explain these accidents.
A communication was received from three business houses, namely:
the Linen Shop - log West Colfax, Madden Corset Shop - ill West Colfax,
and Margaret & Louise Millinery - 113 West Colfax, stating that they were
informed certain taxi cab owners were planning to obtain permission to
establish their taxi cab stands in front of their respective places and
,,they wished to enter protest against this being allowed. There having
been no requests of this nature, the Board ordered their communication
placed on file. -
Mr. J. W. Bonner, operating the Clothes Mart at 303 South Franklin
Street, requested the Board to establish a one-hour parking limit in
front of their place of business, which after considering the Board
decided not to allow.
Mrs. Alice Vernal of 2501 West Orange Street presented a claim
against the City for 45.00 damage caused by Policeman who shot through
her house in apprehending two escaping burglars on August 30, 1935.

After discussing this matter with the Chief, the Board decided to allow
the claim.
Continuation certificate covering bond of L. H. Wirt in the
Continental Casualty Company was approved by the Board. ti..
Application for position on the Police Force by Theodore A. Gugle
was ordered placed on file.
DOG POUND:
Monthly report for August was submitted by mound Master MI. L. Wood
showing dogs caught for the month 149, dogs killed 137, cats killed 86,
cash collected 4-11.75, miles travelled with dog truck 960, used 53 gallons
of gasoline and 14 quarts of oil.
Meeting adjourned at 11:00 o'clock.
