MEETING
August 19, 1935
Regular meeting of the Board
of Public Safety was held on Monday,
August 19, 1935 at 8:45 A. M.
All members were present.
The minutes of.meeting of
August 12th were read and approved.
Requisitions bearing numbers
08608 to 08611, inclusive, wereapproved.
Claims in the amount of 4451.77,
from the following suppliers, were
approved and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh
present:
Matters pertaining to his
department were discussed.
A report from The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance
Company on Boiler No. 1 at Central Fire Station stated in part as follows:
"Due to the age and general detiorated condition of this boi ' ler (built in
1902) and to repairs needed in retubing and the indications on shell
plates at girth seam that repairs will be needed within the next year we
would advise that consideration be given to the installation of a new
boiler." The matter was referred to Mr. Anderson to obtain figures from
boiler men on the cost of new boiler and installation and report at the
next meeting of the Board.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
Matters in general pertaining to the Police Department were discussed.
A communication from the Traffic Survey Committee was read in which
it was stated that Mr. Gunderson of the Chicago Motor Club'considered the
plan a very good one of the South Bend News-Times to be worked out with
aid of the City Engineering Department, the traffic division.of the
Police Department and the Boy Scouts of South Bend in painting symbols at
the location of every automobile accident in South Bend since the first
of the year to date.
A letter from the Traffic Survey Department concerning dangerous
condition in the 900 block Portage Avenue caused by care parked there by
Ward Baking Company employees and recommending that they be instructed to
park their cars elsewhere was referred to the Police Department.
Official bond of Casimer Luzny in the United States Fidelity and
`Guaranty Company was approved by the Board.
Continuation certificate on special police officer's bond of Karl
Everett Koontz in The Employers Liability Assurance Corporation was
approved by the Board.
Police application of Vere DeSonia was received and ordered placed
on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present:
Matters in general pertaining to his department were discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45 A. M.
