The Board approved the installation of a Radio in the Asst Fire hiefs ' car and instructed Mr Qualls to make the Installation. The Board approved the purchase of 50 ft of garden hose to be secured rom the Taylor Tire Shop for each station #1-4 & 8. The question of liability insurance on linemen in the alarm station as discussed and the secretary was instructed to see if such insurance ould be placed on the linemen and the cost also to investigate the cost f compensation insurance on City Employes, The question of putting linemen on the Firemen or Police pension was iscussed.No action was taken. Mr Qualls reported his investigation of themovement of traffic at Ishawaka Ave and 30th St where a traffic signal had been requested.His eport follows, eferring to the request for an electrically operated traffic signal at the tersection of Mishawaka and 30th St, I have investigated traffic movement at this location and am of the opinion at there is not sufficient traffic on 30th St to warrant the expense of stalling an electrically operated traffic signal.or to justify holding up e major flow of traffic on Mishawaka ave. I would reoommefid that painted stop signs be placed on each side of shawaka Ave.on 30th St.calling attention to through traffic on Mishawaka AVE- Secretary instructed the Chief of Police to carry out the order of the d to have stop signs placed at this intersection, letter Dated May 21st from Alfred Ellison M.D. regarding operation on ward Smith was read as follows. wish to report to you concerning the case of Edward Smith upon whom I 0 erated this morning following an injury to hip right knee while employed b the,city as fireman The operation that Mr Smith sustained_a very-serious injury to the knee.structures :at the time of his aeeident.The anterior cruciate 'ligament _ was found to be torn - Martially in -tw ®. - This type of injury usually results'in some degree of permanent impairment to t1le function of the knee which is unavoidable.In'this case it is anticipated that he will have a servicable knee butt.one in which the range Of inetift will :not. betas great as normal. I will advise you of any unusual developments in the case. Police Department Chief Lane Present. The Chief presented a report from officers Whitmer Burns And VanDuesn who attended the police sohobl at Indianapolis and it was decided to furnish each member of the Board a oopy and ,that the matter would be furthur discussed at the next meeting of the Board. The chief brought up the question of polite car equipment and a Pull discussion followed.The Chief recommended that one Fast car could be utilized to good advantage for special emergencies no action was taken. Report from Mr Moomaw Building commissioner on the No Scott St situation was read.and ordered placed on file. .Special police commission for Ernest H.Miller of.the- engineering Dept was .approved* Official Bond of Floyd G.2ellers special police officer in the U.S.Fidelity & Guaranty Co was approved. Applications to the police Department of Jessie Higgins and Howard L.Peterson were ordered placed on file. The-meeting ajourned, at 12.10 P,.M* Chairman - ATTEST Clerk
