Regular meeting of Board:of Public Safety was held at 8 :30.A.M.
on I- Jonday April 29,1935,
All menbers were present.
The minutes of meeting of April 22nd were read and approved.

Claims were.-allowed in the amount of 251.85. from the following supplier

Officer Homer Ames responded to the Boards call and was presen.t.to
discuss his personal obligations and after a thorough discussion the
secretary was instructed to confer with the First Bank &'Trust in an
effort to relieve the strain on officer Ames in paying interest charges
on one, of his loans..enabling him to reduce his obligations raster
Fire :wept Chief present.
The Chief.reported that on April 24'in responding to an alarm from box
512 engine No 3 broke down and is out of service indefintelry as.it is
impossible to get repairs for it as this type engine is obsolite and_
all repair parts would have to machined outat a large expense.The
Chief recommended that a 1000 gal pumping engine be purchased.It was
moved seconddd and carried that the comr,�on councel be requested to
authorize the purchase of an engine as recommended_ by the chief.
The secretary was instructed to inform Fibs :Abel that the bell taken from
the Central Fire Station is contributed to the Northern Indiana
Historical Society and to request them to call for it.
Police Dept Chief Lane present.
Robert u'atts,colord application for position on the police force was
interviewed.It was moved seconded and carried that he be put on the
police force subject to physical exa nation and to assignment by the
chief of ;police to take effect 1,1ay l9t.
The matter of ueputizin certain ;ersons to report traffic violations
was discussed and after a th.orour,•h analysis it t °,,as decided to take no
action at this time.
A letter from 1jr & Mrs Gill eras read in which they reported an
indebtedness to them of 150.00 by Chester Wil_;Zot an officer on the
police force.After discussion the secretary was instructed to inform
fi,lr & iiss Gill that no relief could be offered_ tr?en.T'he secretary wrote
them as follows.

Your letter of April 26t} has been reed to the Board_ of
Public Safety in regard to Chester �'`il.not.The chairri.ar. of title Board
IIr Edwin VT.Hunter advised that he had had a telk v,.itr you in- -�vhich he
informed you that there was no ivay in which the Board could be of help
to you because Officer 4rilmot had restored to bankruptcy.-proceedings
and had listed his indebtness to you in this action. The City of. South
Bend or its Board of Public Safety could not undertake to act as. a
collection agency against its eriployes but 'will be glad to recommend_
favorable consideration-of your account.

The :secretary reported his investi��ation of tl_s Cities Service Co
claim for gasoline furnished in 1930 and not paid for by ~previous boards
The matter was refered to the City Controller and Secretary and it
was agreed the claim 'could be paid next year and included in next Year

The Chief of Police su.,!7r-ested that the association of funeral directors
were willing to pa_y for the services of a 'special policeman to
superintend and direct funeral processions through tine City at no

A recommendation from F.J.Bock Chief radio on_ erator was presented and
read suggesting changes and i.mprovments that might be made in the
Radio system now in force.It was moved seconded and carried that the
recomir�endations be returned to I'vr Bock with instructions to take such
matters up through his chief T m tivalls.,'i'he following, letter was
directed to .Ir Bock.

Safety.After a. discussion of the matter it was regularly moved seconded
and carried that you recommendations be returned to you with instructions
that such matters be taken uo with the Board through your chief l'i1r

rr Q ualls reported that Geo Myers while in line of his duty in lifting
voles to truck had the unfortunate experience of rupturing himself the
; secretary was instructed to see that i t 1,1yers reported -to the city
Sturgeon for examination and make such arran`,eraents as were expedient
to have Ivor lvyers properly taken care of.
ITr Irvin Hurwich attorney for the Indiana Cab Co appeared before the
Board to again request the privilege of a cab stand on the north side
