<br />gular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 8 :30 A. M. on 
<br />nday, [March 18th, 1935. All members present. 
<br />The minutes of meeting of March 11th were read and approved.

<br />It was moved, seconded and carried that Arthur M1. Campbell be appointed 
<br />to the police department to fill the vacancy created by the death of 
<br />Walter Bednarek and that Elmer J. Coil be appointed to take the place of 
<br />James J. Hatt, resigned, both subject to assignment by the Chief of 
<br />Police and to be subject to six month's probation and subject to passing 
<br />physical examination by Thos. B. Pauszek, Police Surgeon, the appointment 
<br />of Campbell to be effective at once and that of Coil to take effect 
<br />April lst, 1935. 
<br />This being the date set for trial of Officers Diddle, hosler and 'Raymond, 
<br />the Board proceeded to examine witnesses and take evidence. The first

<br />by Attorneys Allen and Carter. utitnesses for Officer Riddle were himself 
<br />and his mother lvlrs. Goins of Harriman, Tenn. 
<br />The second case was that of David C. Raymond. Evidence was presented for 
<br />the Board by -G. 0. Thurn, Clerk,'Dr. T. B. Pauszek, Police Surgeon and 
<br />L. J. Lane, Chief of Police. Mr. Raymond was represented by Attorney 
<br />George Sands. 
<br />The third case was that of Walter C. Hosler. Evidence was presented for 
<br />the Board by Geo. 0. Thurn, Clerk, Dr.. T. B. Pauszek, 1yolice Surgeon,and 
<br />L. ,'ir. Hosler was represetted.by Attorney Geo. 
<br />J. Lane, Chief of Police. I 
<br />Sands. 
<br />The evidence was transcribed by Mrs. 1,,raxine Lovell and a copy is on file 
<br />in the Board of Public Safety. 
<br />After careful consideration of the evidence adduced at the hearing of the 
<br />charges of Laurence J. Lane Vs. Lafayette Riddle, the Board finds that the 
<br />charges are fully supported by the evidence, and that the said. Lafayette 
<br />Riddle's appointment to the Police Department was made in violation of 
<br />the rules, and that he, the said LaFayette .Riddle, has been guilty of 
<br />I onduct unbecoming an officer in that he has falsified his age in order to 
<br />secure an appointment to the Police Department, and for which reasons the 
<br />Board finds said LaFayette Riddle should be dismissed and removed from 
<br />the Police Department rolls as of i,iarch 19, 1935. 
<br />After careful consideration of the evidence adduced at the hearing of the 
<br />charges of Laurence J. Lane vs. David Raymond, the :hoard Finds that the 
<br />charges are fully su__%orted by the evidence, and that the said David 
<br />Raymond is incapable of performing the ordinary duties of a police officer 
<br />in that his weight is far too short, his height is too short, and that his 
<br />age, height and weight, at the time of his appointment, were such as to 
<br />nullify the appointment, and that therefore the appointment was wade in 
<br />violation of the rules. 
<br />Wherefore the Board orders the said David Ray�aond dismissed from the 
<br />Police Department rolls as of [parch 19, 1935. 
<br />After careful consideration of the evidence adduced at the hearing of the 
<br />charges of Laurence J. Lane vs. '[alter Iiosler, the Board finds that the 
<br />charges are fully supported by the evidence, and that the said 'itifalter 
<br />Hosler is incapable of doing ordinary police dutie's in -thatte i physi- 
<br />cally unfit for such.service and further finds that his appointment 
<br />made at a time when he was too old to be made a me_zber of the Police 
<br />Department and was made in violation of the department rules. 
<br />Wherefore the Board orders that the said Walter hosier be dismissed from 
<br />the Police Department rolls as of !,:arch 19, 1935.
