A speoial -meeting -of the combined Boards of Public Works and Public
Safety was held on ednesdau January 2nd 1935 in the office of the
V
Mayor.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Freyermuth for the purpose
of organization. Present"- Mayor Freyermuth, Edwin Hunter, Fred Woodward,
and Fred JViderson.
It was moved by Mr Hunter, seconded by Mr. Woodward, and carried that the
Boards be organzed as a combined Board of Public Works and Public Safety.
It was.now moved by Mr. Hunter, seconded--by Mr. Woodward. and carried,
that the combined board organize separately as Boards of Public Works, Ell
and. VuVlic Safety, and that a Chairman be selected for each Board.,
Mayor Freyermuth now called a meeting of the Board of Public Safety
Anderson Hunter Woodward

of the Board of Public Safety. Elected.
'The reorganized Board$ was -mow called by Chairman Hunter.
It was *oved,, seconded and carried that the appointments made by Mayo-r
Freyermuth be approved as follows;
Lawrence J. Lane, Chief of Police.
Wm. Freeh, Fire Chief
Chas. Pettm, Pu pa_ Asst. Fire Chief
C. 0. Thurn, Clerk.
It was moved,, seconded and carried that action of Mayor Fr/yer� 7uth, that

the position of City Sealer be declared vacant as of Jan. sit 1935
and that Charles Burns shall not receive any pay after that date by reason
of his claim, be approved., and the Secretary is instructed to do notify
Mr. Burnes.
It was decided ti-i'at the appointment of the following is to be..withheld
until further-notide and further investigation is made.
Asst. Chief of Police
Dog Pound Master
Head of Electrical Dept.
City Sealer.
It was moved and seconded that weekly meetings be held on Mondays at
8:30 A.M. and the next meeting to be held on Jan. 7th, 1935. Carried.
Appointment of Karl R. Smith as City Court Bailliff was'approved by motion.

Petition for new Fire Station in the South West portion of the city,
signed by Joseph Sipoca and others was placed on file.
The meeting adjourned at 4:10 P. M.

CALLED -IN SPECIAL SESSION BY THE
MAYOR OF SAID CITY THIS 2ND
DAY OF JANUARY, 1935.

It appearing to the members of this Board that the Mayor of
the City o I f South Bend, by virtue of his powers as mayor, has
heretofore, to-wit: on the lst day of January, 1935 notified one,,
Charles Burns, that he is no longer City Sealer of the City of
South Bend. And it appearing further to the Members of the Board.

that the action of said Mayor, in declaring said office vacant and
in removing said Charles Burns from his pretended claim to said
office., should be and is hereby confirmed; the Board hereby adopts
the action of the Mayor as its action and declares said, office,
vacant and instructs the Clerk of this Board to notify the State
Inspector of Weights and Measures that said office in the City of
South Bend is vacant; and requests that an immediate examination
be held for the purpose of filling the vacancy, and also requests
that the said Charles Burns be notified that he is no longer on
the payroll of said city.
