RE: Cities of Service "Love Your Block" grant opportunity
Dear President Scott,
The Engagement & Empowerment Team is requesting the Council's support for a grant application
submitted in May, 2018 for a the proposed "Leading in Neighborhood Connections" program (LINC). This
grant consists of $25,000 over 2018 and 2019, as well as two fulltime AmeriCorps VISTA members, to
support a resident-driven home repair effort.
Increasing Diversity and Inclusion is a part of the City's mission statement and we believe that LINC will
support this work. This program is an extension of work that residents are already doing to take on
home repairs and we believe it will be a strong addition to the City's commitment to neighborhood
engagement.
If the City's application is successful, LINC will not require additional funds from the Department of
Community Investment budget. The program will not take staff time beyond managing two AmeriCorps
VISTA members, who will be responsible for day-to-day program activities.
It is requested that this bill be filed for your Council meeting on July 9, 2018 and presented during the
Residential Neighborhoods committee meeting. Thank you for your attention to this request. If you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me at (574) 235-5896.
