Knoblock, present and the activities of his depart - ment Aiscussed. POLICE DEPARTMENT: The-following communication was read: May 16, 1934 "To` the Board of Public Safety: I herewith submit my resignation as a member of the South Bend Police Department effective this date. Signed John B. KueNpert It was carried that the above resignation be accepted. The following communication was then read: May 17, 1934 "Board of Public Safety, City of South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: I have this day appointed Mr. Michael C. Hanley as Chief of Police of the City of South Bend,effective this date. Very truly yours R. HINi= Mayor After discussion the Board on motion by Mr, Trost, seconded by Mr. Gadacz with an objection by ir. McSorley refused to ratify this appointment and it was decided that Assistant Chief, Horace 11. Hamilton, continue as Acting Chief, and Officer Leo Berner as Acting Assistant Chief. Acting Chief, Horace a1. Hamilton, present and the department discussed. It was decided that at the intersection of Indian, STOP signs be put up at Indiana Ave. and the Stop remain as at present. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: Superintendent, Wm. F. Qualls, not present due to activities of his a Ave. and 1,.,Iain.St. signs on," ::gain St. a death in his family.
