Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members present.
The Beard instructed the -Clerk to Quick Claim the -south two thirds (2/3).
J of Lot 12-Range 1 West. Block 1 in the City Cemetery to Mrs. Susie Purse, also with.
the understanding that Mrs. Susie Morse transfer her, title to lot No. 12 Range
1 Test Block 9 to the '14unicipal City of South Bend, Indiana.
Mr. 'B. Ff. Miller, appeared, before the Board and- presented a petition
Jfor the appropriation of 10 feet lying along Portage Avenue to Woodward on Terrace
Avenue. The same was read and referred to the City Civil Engineer for investigation

Hearing given on Improvement Resolution No. 300 :for -Concrete Pavement
k1 on First a'I-iey West. cif Park Avenue from Navarre Sti!eet to Lac Monte Terrace. I the City
of South Bend, Indisna.
In the above matter no remonstrators appearedand no remonstrance
was filed. The Board thereforefind in each and every case in said Improvement that the
Benefits to the property and to the. City, of South Bend are equal to the .estimated cost.
of said improvement and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed end ap-
proved.
Resolved, that notices be published on the 17th., day of April,,1914
and on the 24th., day of April,,1914 in the South Bend Daily News -Times, stating that this
Board will receive bids for the construction of said improvements up to 10:00 A.M.
on the 5th., day of May 1914. The Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

Avenue from Portage Avenue to La Porte Avenue. The same was read-an'd placed on file.

Gentlemen: -
The matter of bad condition of pavement along the street car tracks in
various parts of the down -town district especially has been called to the attention
of the Board of Public Safety, by the Fire Department. In some places the condition
is such that it is dangerous to the apparatus when crossing at the speed they must
-necessatily take in responding to an alarm*
We merely call this to your attention, thinking that you may desire to
investigate, if you are not already doing so.

The City Civil Engineer reported favoably on the petition for walks ,on
Pennsylvania Avenue from High Street to Miami Street. The-Clerl was instructed. to
prepare resolution on the sameg and set for a hearing.
A remonstrance was filed with the Board against the appropriating of a strip
of land lying from lst. alley North of Miner Street to Sorin Street for the extention
of Frances Street.
Bond and contract signed by McGrath and Luther as principal and Equitable
Surety Company of St. Louis,, Mo. for the sum of Eighty ($90.00)Dollars was approved
Vby the Board. or Water connections on St. Louis Street f.rom South Bend Avenue to
Corby Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 299.
Bond and contract shed

Contractors bond of Louis E. Zeiger signed as principal and J6seph Zeiger,
henry C. Eckler and Walter G. Eckler as sureties for the sum of one Tnousand ($1.)0000.00)
V Dollars was approved by the Board.

Regarding the attached petition for a sewer on Penniylvana A venue from
High St. to Miami Street. I recommend that the petition be placed on file.
All the property on Pennsylvania Ave. I between High St. and Miami,Street
can be accommodated with sewerage without a sewer on Pennsylvania Avenue*

to Olive Street, soliciting a grade,, curb and walk on same. The same was read and
referred to the City Civil Engineer for investigation*
Petition received for a pipe sewer on..Tecumseh Avenue from Parkovash Ave.
to Pokagon Street. The sewer to serve only the lots on the east side and need to
be only below the line of first drains, 'should. also be constructed to catch the water
at two or three points along the side hill vdth drain behind ttie walk. The same
was read and a resolution was ordered prepared and.set for a hearing.

Company of New York as sureties for the improvement of Grade, curb and walk on Dale
Avenue from Dayton Street to Bovman Street, under ImprovementResolutionNo. 294.
was approved by the Board.
Bond and contract signed by Matthius Feser as principal and The Globe
Indemnity Company of New York as sureties, for the #qprovement of Various Streets
in the, City of South Bend, Indiana , Under improvement Resolution No. 294. was
approved by the Board.
Contractors bond for the sum of One Thousand ($17000.00)Dollars signed
by Matthius Feser as principal and Globe Indmenity �Company of New York as sureties
was. approved, by the Board.
Permission was granted the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company to set p-oles
as follows: -
To reset 5 -351 poles on Leer Street, north of Calvert Street, on the east
side of Leer Street2 also 4-a-35t poles on Calvert Street east of Leer Street, to be
placed on south side of Calvert Street.

No. 307.
RESOLVED BY TflE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND`:
,3T.* :�JO '3EPH, COUNTY,STATE OF INDIANA, That it is deemed necessary to improve EAST SIDE
OF PRAIRIE AVENTjE FROM StiIIPLE STREET TO LST. ALLEY NORTH OF LEON COURT.
By grading said street from property line to property line, and con-
structing cement sidewalk and cement curb on east side of said Prairie Avenue were not
already constructed. All as shown on plans, profiles and detail drawings on file in the
office of the Board of Public Works.
And such improvement is now ordered, in accordance with the profile, details, drawings and
specifications on file in the office oaf the Department of the Board of Public Works of said
City; add such i mprovement is now ordered..
The cost of said improvement, including the cast of street and alley inter-
sections, shall be assessed upon the real estate abutting on -said East side of Prairie
Avenue, all according to the method and manner provided for in an Act of the General Assembly
of the State of Indiana, entitled "An Act Concerning Muncipal Corporations," approved March
6,1905, and in accordance with, and pursuant to the provisions of all amendatory and suplle-
mental acts thereto, passed by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana. Assessents
if deferred, are to be pair, in ten equal annual installments:, with interest at the rate of
Six per cent per annum. A bond or bonds shall he issued to the contractor in payment of such
work, unless the proprty owners pay said assess tints before said bond or bonds are issued.
Under no circumstances shall the City of South Bend, be, or be held responsb ble for any
sum or sums due from said property owner or owners for said work or for the collection of
the same, or for the payment of any bond, bonds certificate or certificates, issued to said
contractor in payment for such work, except for such moneys as shall have been actually,
received by the City from the assessments for such improvement, or such moneys as said City
is by said above entitled Act required to pay. All proceedings had, and York done in the
makinf-; of said improvement, assessment of property, collection of assessments and issuance
,of bonds therefor, shall be as provided for in said above entitled Act and amendments thereto.
Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 16th., day of April.1914
and on the 23rd. day of April,1914 in the South Bend Daily News -Times. This Board will give a
hearing on this resolution in its dffice in the City Hall onnthe 12th., day of May,1914 at
7:45 P.M.
