Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety.was held on Tuesday, January
2nd, 1934.
Meeting called to order by Mr.-C.A. Buddt President at 9:15 A. 11. All
members present.
The Board approved bills in the sum of $4,751.32, bearing requisitions as

The meeting was temporarily adjourned at 10:30 to allow the Board to make
a tour of inspection and test of the new police radio broadcasting station
and equipment.
Meeting reconvened at 2:00 P.M.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Fire Chief, Roy Knoblock, was present and reported on the activities of
omitted his time sheets for
the department for the past two weeks and su
the month of December and his monthly reports for the months of September,
October and November, 1933.
A copy of a resolution embodying a petition for the increase of firemen's
salaries was presented to the Board by the International Association of
Fire Fighters, Local #362 of South Bend, Indiana. Inasmuch as the
authority to increase such salaries devolves upon the Mayor and not the
Board, the Board instructed the Clerk to reply to tha t effect.
The.recent bids on firemen's uniforms were examined and the bid of Joe
ziker of $37,00 for each complete uniform was found to be the lowests
and the Board instructed Chief Knoblock that firemen's uniform s be
obtained from that source hereafter.

Chief IlAftZ. Kuespert was present at the meeting and reported the activities
of his -dttment for the last -two weeks.-
On motion of Mr. Gadacz, seconded by Mr. Trost, it was unanimously agreed
to reinstate Doyal Rhymer on the Police Department effective Tan. 1019Z4..
The Bayard instructed the Clerk to write letter of condolence to Mrs.
Emmett Baxter and ordered copy of said letter to be spread in -the
minutes of this record.

It was with profound sadness that the members of this Board
learned of the death of your beloved husba one of the City is most
faithful servants for the pest fifteen. yeAr#
We trust it may be of some consolation to you to know of the
high esteem and regard in which your husband was held by his fellow
officers, and for you to know that the Board is cognizant of.the fine,
loyal and heroic service that he rendered this City since his appointment.
The members of the Board are deeply.in sympathy with you in
your bereavement, in the untimely passing of your dear husband.

The weekly reports for weeks ending Dec. 23 and 30th, 1933 of City
Sealer.Cha.rles J. Burns, were scruti and ordered an ordered placed on file.
The meeting adjourned at 4 :45 P. M
