The following resolution filed with the Board in regard to the street

Gentlemen.: -
Resolved, by the Board of Park Commissioners of the City of South Bend, Indiana`,
.� in session. That the illumination of St. Louis Street Boulevard greatly enchan.ces the
value of the abutting property and City at large, and is an essential feature of Boulevard
construction:.
AAd Whereas, the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company have installed an under-
ground Electrici6l 8quipment and have placed poles and lights staggered to the number of
five (5) to a block. And the lighting effect and the general appearance is satisfactory
to the Board.
19e, the aforesaid Board do hereby adopt the present system of lighting as now
installed on St. Louis Street Boulevard from Jefferso n Street_ to South Bend Avenue.
Therefore, we recommend that the Board of Public Works provide for the payment
of the maintenance of these lights along the aforesaid Boulevard.
Adopted this 16th., day of January 1914.

Avenue From Van. Buren Street to Quincy Street, under Improvement Resolution No, 292. In. the
City of South Bend, Indiana.
Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published on the
29t h. , day of January 1914 and on the 4th. day of February 1914. in. the South Bend Daily
News -Times Stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments
at its office in the -City Hall on -the 17th-, day of,February 1914 at 7;45 P.M.
Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contracts be ac-
ce�ted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution shall-1
be published on the 29th. , day of January; 1914 and on the 4th. , day of February 1914
in the South Bend Daily News-Time,s,stating that this Board will give a hearing on the ac-
ceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 17th., day of February 1914 at

Under Improvement Resolution No. 291. In the City of South Bend, Ira iana.
Resolved, that notices as t'o the amount of assessments be published on the.
29th. , day of January 1914 and on the 4th. , day of February 1914 in the South Bend
Daily Times, stating that this Board will give a bearing on the amount of such
assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 17th., day of Februa-ry 1914 at
7:45 P.M.

amount of such assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 17th., day of

Gentlemen: -
.I herewith report, what in my opinion is, the value of the pavement which was
taken up by the. Chicago, LaKe Shore & South. Bend Ry. Co. and the Chicago South Bend �c
Northern Indian, Ry. Co. on LaSalle Avenue and Main. Street.
In accordance -ith the terms of the contract between tLhe City and these co
parries they were to rebate the property owners the value of the pavements.

SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION. No. 294.'
r Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South. Bend, St.
Joseph County, State of Indiana, Teat it is deemed necessary to improve VARIOUS STREET.
That an, improvement be made of the kixd,size, location and teinixal
points as foilows:-
That bids be received for the constructio-i and repairing of cement
side-walks,,,curbs, and for filling and excavating for said side -walks and curbs on dif-
ferent streets in said Grity, where the same have already been partly constructed, or are
defectively constructed. All such work to be done after the owners of abutting property
have been ordered and notified to construct or repair such sidewalks and curbs for a
period of 30 'days' from the date of any such notice:
All work to be constructdd'or repaired in accordance with standard
specifications on Pile in the office of the City Engineer of said City.
All work to be done and assessments made as provided in Section 1 of
an Act entitled "An Act Concerning Municipal Corporations, approved 1909, at pages "412
-415" in accordance with the profile, details, drawings and specifications on, file in
the office of the Department of the Board of Public Works of said City; and such improve-
ment is now ordered.
The cost of said improvement, including the cost of street and alley
intersections, small be assessed upon the real estate abutting on said VARIOUS STREET,
all according to the method and manner provided for in an Act of the General Assembly
of the State of Indiana, entitled "Ah Act Concerning Muncipal Corporations "Approved
March 6,1905, and in accordance with End -pursuant to the provisionsof all emendatory and
supplemental acts thereto, passed by the General Assemblyof the State of Indiana. Assess-
ments, if deferred, are to be paid in tern equal annual installments, with interest at the
rate of Six per cent per annux. A bond or bonds shall be issued to the contractor in
payment of such work, unless the property owners pay said assessment before said bond or
bonds,are issued. Under no circumstances shall the City of South Bend, be, or be held re-.
spensible for any sum or' suns, due from said property owner or owners for said work or for
the collection of the same, or for the payment of any bond,bonds, certificate or certi-
cates, issued to said contractor in payment for such work,;; except for such moneys as shall
have been actually received by tAe City from the assessments for such improvement, or such
moneysas said City is by said above entitled Act"required to pay. All proceedings had, and
work done in the making of said improvement, assessment of property, collection of ass`ss-
ments and issuance of bonds therefore, shall be as provided for in said above entitled.

January 1914 and on the 4th. , day of February 1914 in the South. Bend Daily News-Tixes,
This Board will receive sealed proposals in their office in the City Hall on the 17th--,
day of February 1914 at 10:00 A.M. for txe execution of the aforesaid work. The Board
reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

Mr. Calvert appeared before the Board representing the Indiana & Michigan Electric
Company in regard. to the St. Louis Street Boulevard Lighting,Wkite way Lighting
also the underground wiring. The 'Indiana & Michigan Electric Company through
Mr. C. Calvert agrees to present proposals to the Board relative to the cost
of this kind of lighting. '
The Board approved of the following prices for Material and labor also
conditions as stated' below.
Mowing and sprinkling must be paid for on or before the lst. day of
May of each. year., All material and labor should be paid for at completion of work.
Opening and closing graves less than four (4) feet in length ...... $150 each.

By -the unanimous consent of the Board the City Cemetery Sexton
Mr. Geor Te M. Urey was allowed a. monthly salary of S elit five ( �75. 00) Dollars per
month, also allowed an assistant at the rate of Two tJ2.M)Dollars a day. The same
was carried.
Petition was a street light was filed with the Board on South. Scott
Street at the intersection *pith. West Dunn Street. The same was read and referred
.to the Street Commissioner, for investigation.
advisory The Board approved of the appointment of the following gentlemen to
act asAappra,isers, to place a valuation on the property taken by the Opening of
North William Street, under Condemnation Resolution No. 2$. Tke-personal of said
Committeee to be as followsL— Messrs. Hower M. Taggart, P. E.,Bondur'ant and
W.P. Furey, Cl-erk was ordered to notify same by letter.
