The board of Public Safety of the City of South bend, Indiana, being
in regular session at the hour of 9-30 A.Y.,
, y 22, 1933., the time
set for the hearing of charges preferred against Officer Chester Wilmont
by Chief of Chester r 4 Police John B. Kuespert, I'l 15, 1933, to the effect
that said V�,rilmont was guilty of "Conduct unbecoming en officer
and violation of the rules of the Police Department of the City of
Sout h Ben d whi ch ch arge s a re in wor d s and f i p"Lire s as f o 1 lows , (HI)
and said Officer Wilmont having been duly notified of said charges and
the hop-ring of said charges having been set for 9-30 A. 1 lvi 22
1933, in presence of Officer Chester Wilmont and his attcrney, and said
setting of hearing having been agreed to by said Officer V�ilmont and
his attorney, and now sai Officer Wilmont fails to epperr before the
Board. of Safety et the appointed hour either in person or by his attor-
ney, and the Clerk of the Board having been ordered to call Officer
Wilmont, and having called Officer Wilmont three times and Officer
l'ilmont responding not either in p erson or by attorney and t he Board
having heard the testimony - g p
of C ,ptain Edward V. Horris after he had
been duly sworn, and finding that the charges preferred against said
Of fi cer , - 1ilmont here supported by the evidence' adduced the Board,
by unanimous vote dismisses said Officer Wilmont from the Police.
Dbpartment of the City of South Bend and discharges-him from its service
effective at once which discharge and dismissal are for the reason that . s
said Office Chester Wilmont was guilty of "Conduct unbecoming an
officer and violation of rules of the Police Department of South Bend,,
Indiana, in that on the 26th. 2 day of April, 1933, said patrolman Wilmont
was detailed at Epworth Hospital in company with of Bend Roberts,
to guard tinTo prisoners, to-wit, the Rajski brothers who had been wounded
in an attempt to commit robery and house-breaking in the city of South
B and were confined. in said hospital and that while on guard and. on
duty, said officer left his post of duty partially disrobed and laid
down on a davenport in said hospital and went to sleep and that he was
so discovered by C 1 of said Police Department at 2:15 A. hl.,
on the morning of April 26, 1933, and it is so ordered, that said officer
Chester Wilmont be dismissed and discharged from the Police Department
of the City of South Bend, Indiana.

Hugh Wine, 516 E. vVenger Street' was cancelled on his request.
Special Police Bond on Anton Tschida with The American E Agency
'Insurance Company, dated April lst., 1933, was approved and ordered file

Chief Knoblock reported the activities of his department for the past week.
Clerk of the Board presented a letter from the Hamilton Rubber Manufacturing
Company, advising the Board that they declined their order for 500 feet of
fire hose for the reason that the terms relative to the payment of said
hose, we e - Pe not agreeable. A motion was made by Mr. Gqdacz, seconded by Yr.
Trost and unanimously carried that the order for the 'above mentioned 500
feet of fire hose be given to the Johnson Rubber Products Corporation.
The application of Louis A. Kasa was
ap7oved and ordered placed on file.

William F. Qualls, Superintendent, presented. weekly time sheets and sane
were examined and ordered filed. S Superintend ent reported the activit-
ies of his DePartmnt for the past .A,eek.
Clerk of the Board presented a receipt f ram the County Treasurer in the
sum of $13.50 covering damages to a traffic signal at the corner of Lincoln
Way East and Carroll Street. S receipt represented. settlement paid b_ y

filed.
DOG POUND.
Clerk of -the Board presented a receipt from the County Treasurer in the
sum of $5.00 covering the sale of the junked truck from the Dog, Pound
Department, as authorized by the Board on Il
