More together than alone
Our work enchants everyday
life, igniting in people
a sense of curiosity of what
could be possible . We explore
the future of cities and new
ways to tell stories .
For South Bend, we hope to
stimulate exchanges between
passers-by, creating a piece
that can be meaningful
and embody the vision of a
renewed, human-friendly
riverfront for the city .
We imagine a participatory
artwork, brought to life
through collaboration, that
will play an active part in
local daily life .
Collaboration
Daily tous les jours leads multidisciplinary
projects where participatory arts,
interactive media and narrative
environments intersect. Our artistic
approach is always context-based.
Every new project starts with a thorough
study of the site, people, history, culture
and behaviours. Our ability to connect
with each of our unique audiences has
become part of our signature, laying the
foundation for our success working in
public spaces. We aim to enchant and to
facilitate engagement between people
from all walks of life, in essence allowing
them to connect first and foremost on
a human level. Each project’s inherent
narrative comes to life through interaction,
evolving as people experience it and bring
their own stories.
Placemaking
The critical role the public plays in our
installations has led us to go where our
public is—in the streets, in the heart of
the city, where art is taking on a renewed
role as an enabler of connectivity and
engagement. For this reason, South Bend
would provide the perfect opportunity to
put forth a creative narrative that evokes
memories and feelings and that ultimately
can generate civic pride and ownership,
elevating the value of this urban space.
Our past projects exemplify our unique
ability to transform simple objects
and activities into magical interactive
experiences. We want to stimulate
people’s sense of discovery by tapping
into their innate desire to learn,
experiment and solve together. Spatial
riddles, collective benches, instruction
platforms or as selected points of view are
some of many ideas that can help animate
and give meaning to a piece.
Developing the creative potential of
emerging technologies is an equally
vital aspect of our practice. Our interest
in celebrating the dynamic relationship
between physical objects and user-
enhanced programs has led us to develop
a wide range of custom integrated
technology solutions. A project’s context
dictates if we choose to use technology,
and if so, how it is integrated to the
environment. We also work out realistic
maintenance plans with the client from the
start.
About
Daily tous les jours was cofounded in 2010
by Mouna Andraos and Melissa Mongiat.
Over the years, we built a diverse team
of designers, technologists, musicians,
architects, and producers. We also love to
collaborate with experts in different fields
including choreographers, composers,
chefs, filmmakers and scientists as
needed.
Our work has won numerous international
recognitions including Best in Show
at the 2013 Interaction Awards, the Grand
Prize at the 2014 UNESCO Shenzhen
Design Awards, the 2015 Knights Cities
Challenge, and more recently, a Fast
Company Innovation by Design Award.
We are also very active in the design and
digital arts communities, giving lectures
and talks worldwide, notably at SXSW,
EYEO, New Cities Summit, TEDx, Ars
Electronica.

Stitching Together
‘Ribbon Town’
We have come to learn that much like the
river it is named after, the urban, cultural
and economic evolution of South Bend
Indiana has gone through many twists and
turns. Out of its facsinating history and
exceptional geography emerge stories
of its first inhabitants benefiting from
the natural resources, portaging during
fur trade, industrial transportation and
manufacturing businesses. These drastic
transformations in the identity of South
Bend have led us to better understand
the need for a period of contemporary
rediscovery.
Although exciting redevelopment efforts
are beginning to bring new life and energy
to the area, the current state of South
Bend’s communities remain somewhat
divided, both physically and socially. One
thing that has always united them however
seems to be the river.
To further encourage people coming
together along the river’s edge the city
has begun planning over 3.5 miles of
walking trail. Daily tous les jours hopes to
create a bespoke interactive installation
to contribute to the transformation of this
path into a unique journey, a playful and
collaborative walking experience that
brings both citizens and visitors of all ages
and from all backgrounds together.
Scenario 1
Daily tous les jours conceives and
delivers a new and customized permanent
interactive installation for a portion of
South Bend’s river trails.
*We recommend that this would be done in
two separate phases (preliminary concept
and design/fabrication phases)
Timeline: 12-15 months
Scenario 2
Daily tous les jours adapts one of their
existing interactive installation for a
permanent new site along South Bend’s
river trails.
Timeline: 6-12 months

Research & Concept
The Daily tous les jours’ approach
includes strategies to encourage local
participation at critical moments in the
creative process: namely during early
research as well as through prototyping.
1.1 Preliminary research
– Understand any existing studies,
research or documents pertaining
to the specific site and adjacent
communities
– Research local stakeholders, residents
or site-users that we should meet
during a site visit
– Conduct preliminary Skype or phone
interviews
– General research on the history and
stories of the site and communities
1.2. Site visit
– Study existing circulation and
everyday usage through observation
– Meet with local stakeholders to
understand existing relationships and
expectations for the site
– Possibility of holding an open meeting
and/or workshop with any interested
parties or residents to explore the
potential of the site together
– Meet with key local partners for
fabrication and/or installation
1.3. Concept development
– Explore the promenade as a raw
material for play: how can the trails
remain functional while becoming a
space for living, together, better
– Prototype preliminary ideas, document
(and share)
– Refine objectives
– Propose preliminary concept (short
text and sketch)
– Presentation *Skype or in person
