A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, APPROVING THE PROVISION OF ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO THE
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend Board of Public Works ("Board") is authorized under
the laws of Indiana to purchase, acquire and lease property; and
WHEREAS, the St. Joseph County Public Library ("Library") is an Indiana non-profit
corporation ("Library") incorporated with the purpose of furthering the quality of life of residents of
the City as well as residents of St. Joseph County, Indiana through learning, discovery, and
experiencing; and
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend (the "City") through the City of South Bend Board of
Park Commissioners, the Library, and St. Joe Valley Metronet, Inc. dlb/a MetroNet Zing, a company
operating an open -access fiber optic network serving South Bend and surrounding communities,
have entered into a Digital Inclusion Site Management Agreement to create public digital access
centers in City facilities and other public areas accessible by City residents ("Project"); and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of the Project, the City desires to provide funding in the amount
of $25,000.00 ("Money") to the Library.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of South Bend Board of Public Works
as follows:
1. The City, through the Board, hereby approves the provision of $25,000.00 to the
Library, which amount will be used for the purchase of equipment needed for the Project.
2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon its adoption by the City of South
Bend Board of Public Works.
ADOPTED at a meeting of the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
held on May 8th, 2018, at 1308 County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend,
Indiana 46 60 1.

SUBJECT: Proclamation of Funds for the St. Joseph County Public Library for
devices Designated for Martin Luther King Jr. Digital Access Sites

Linda and Members of the Board,
Please see attached proclamation for the purchase of devices for the Martin
Luther King Jr. Center. The Martin Luther King Jr. Center is the pilot site for a
digital access initiative. The sites will provide high-speed Internet, quality
devices, and digital programming to residents in South Bend. This effort is a facet
of a broader City initiative aimed towards addressing the digital divide in South
Bend, working towards digital inclusion. Due to their core competency servicing
all residents with devices and training, the St. Joseph County Public Library is a
partner in the above initiative. The Office of Innovation and Technology team has
reviewed the proclamation and has a favorable recommendation as well.
They not to exceed cost of $22,124 is for a one-time donation for the purchase of
12 computers, 1 photocopier/scanner/fax machine/printer, computer
administration and support, Microsoft Office Suite, and Deep Freeze Cloud.
