Smith Vice Pres. & Geh'i. Mgr, Knim of Chicago, South Bend and Northern Indiana Railway Company Iappeared before the Board and presented petition and agreement requesting extension of Bus service north on Fellows Street Tto Sample Street. Approved as follows: TO. THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKSOF THE CltY OP SOUTH BEND,• INDIANA: a Gentlemen:- The Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana Railway Company represents that is, now operating, in the City of South Bend, A bus line known as the n Fellow Fellows Street Line, " under an agreement entered into between the Railway Company and your Board on July lath., 1923. The Railway Company fuRther represents that ,this agreement was ratified by the Common Council ).on August 27th., 1923, and -ap- proved by the Mayor -of the City. on August 29th.9 1§23, The Railway Company furthe represents that one of the terms of the aboce mentioned agreement is that'the Board of Public Works shall have authority to grant minor changes in the route specified, on petition of'the railway company, which'shall show the necessity for such change. ' The Railway Company represents that the portion of'the route speeifid in the above mentioned agreement which lies between the junction of Broadway and Lafayette Street , and Lafayette and Sample Streets , is ramd already covered by a line of busses -operated by'the South.Bend Motor'Bus Company, and that therefore the service on Lefayette'Street between Broadway and Sample Streets is duplicated by the Fellows Street line. ' The Railway Company further represents that the residents on Fellows Street, north of Indiana Avenue are desirous of'having the route extended north on Fellows Street as far as Sample, and that a house to house canvass in this territory has been an almost unanimous desire for bus service. Therefore the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana Railway Company Respectfully petitions your Board for permission to change the present route, named in the above mentioned agreement, so that the busses may operate norm marth on Fellows Street to Sample Street, thence west on Sample Street to Lafayetb returning over the same route, the balance of the route to be that specified in th the above mentioned agrement. - - Approved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend on the 61h. day of November, 1923. Cole of McHugh and Cole Co. contractors on North Main Street sewer contract appeared before the Board in regard to repaving on North Main Street. Mayor Seebirt and F. J. Anderson City Engineer present. After a conference with J. F. Cole of McHugh and Cole=gxxsdxxft the Board agreed to allow him One Dollar per sq. yd. for the concrete base put in by them on North Main Street, Cole and McHugh to allow the City $3,00 per yard, from which $1.00 per yad yard to be dedicted on account of base furnished by McHugh and Cole, leaving Cz a net balance of $2.00 per yard to be dedieted from amount due them under their contract tobuiid sewer, and the City to take over the replacing of the pavement destroyed by putting sewer contract in, hoping thereby to hasten the completion of the very much delayed contract. Tge matter of replacing pavement where sewer was put in on North Main Street between Madison and Navarre Street taken up and E. A. Coates of the Williston Cnstruction Company and F-.-'A. Companys ,granted permission to putt walk ordered in on thirty day notices in the spring of 1924., and in the meantime to place cinders walks in. Petition filed and resolution ordered for opening of a3 alley fourteen (14') fool: wide east, snd west from Dorothy Street west to first alley west of Dorothy Street the north boundry line of said alley to be -the -south boundry line of lots 20021,22 in Prairie Qveue Heights Addition, IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 1277 for grade, curb and walk on Marine Street from Ewing Avenue to Victoria Street, adopted and filed. Petition received and filed for consideration for early spring of 1924, for sewer on Laurel Street from Division Street to New Yo.kk Central Tracks. Petition received and filed for eonsideratioll in spring of 1924 for pavement on Calvert Street from Miami Stre�1► to Leer Street. Arc light ordered placed at the southeast corner of St. Joseph Street, and Altgeldt Street, on mast arm. Indiana Constr. Company ordered to construct cement sidewalk and curb on.lot 197 Shiveiey's Add. located at Taylor Street, also Lot 125 and 132 D M. Shiveley Addition located on East, side of Beott Street, same to be put in under Various Sidewalk contract. Waiver presented by Whitcomb and Keller foR grade, curb and walk on Marine Street from.Ewing Avenue to Victoria Street, to be approved when Wbhiteomb and Keller agree to assume any assessments of property not, represanted in this waiver. All members preset present. r Hearing had on assessment rolls and final estimates on the following improvements: - Grade, curb and walk on Colfax Avenue from east end of to the west end of Sunnyside Manor under Improvement Resolution No. 1155. ' Grade, curb and walk on McKinley Avenue from E. line of Sunnyside Manor to W. line of Sunnyside Manor under Improvement Resolution No. 1157. r Grade, curb and walk on Jacob Street from Washington Avenue to McKinley Avenue, under improvement Resolution No. 1156. Grade, curb and walk on La Salle Avenue from east end of to west end of Sunnyside Manor under Improvement Resolution No. 1158. Grade, curb and walk on Washington Avenue from Sunnyside to east and of Sunnyside Manor under Improvement Resolution No. 1154. In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said roll filed October 31st. 1923 are benefited in the amounts as shown on said roils, and the Board further finds, that the assessment rolls filed October 31st.9 1923 and the final estimate allowed October 31st., 1923 k2xkxx should be and the same are hereby in all things, ratified, confirmed and approBt approved. ..,...
