minutes of previous,mee:ting were read and approved.
FIRE, DEPARTMENT
No reports.
FLEDTRICAL DEPARTMENT;-
No weekly report received.
WEIGHTS & MEASURE DEPARTMENT:-
Reed I. Hawthorne presented weekly veport for the week ending
October 23rd,.1925.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Motion prevailed that the Bond of Officer Chas. F. Austin,
for one thousand - dollars and the National Surety Co,,
as surety was approved.
Motion prevailed that the apllication of Fulius Piechorowski,
for a.position in the P.8lice Department wasaccepted and oreder placed
on file.
Officer Forrest D. Clark, appeared before the Board to explain
the accident he had with Ford car of the police department on the
night. of Oct. 15th. with D"ey Griffeth, at the corner of Jefferson,
and Main Stre. in wktch to'tine of the police car was damaged,
Mr. Clark was caution about having accidents and was instructed
not to drive any cons for the police department for a period of
foutte.en days.
The following agreement was read and executed by this Board : -
This agreement made this 23rd.'.day of dune 1925 between the
City of South Bend, by and through its Board of Tvfzdtees, WITNESSETH :.
That whereas the City of South Bend is a municipal corporation
in the .state of Indiana and is a city of the second class, and as
such maintains and operates a Fire Department, AND WHEREAS the
Town of Roseland is a mtnicipal corporation in the State of Indiana
and is located nearly contiguous to said City of South Bend and
said Town of Roseland desires to have certain fire protection from
said City of -South Bend,
THEREFORE, it is agreed by and b- sdtween said City and said
Town that the said City shall answer fire alarms and fire calls of
the,citizene of said town, with its chemical engine and with
sufficient men to properly manage the same and that said pity of
Sofh Bend by its said dire department will do everything within its
means to' "properly protect buildings and structures in'said Town from
damage-and loss by fire.
It is understood, however, that the said City od SouthbBend
shall .not be liable for negligence of its firemen or any of its
agents to either said Twon or any of its citizens and. that the
obligation of said City under this contract to said Town and its
citizens shall be the same only as is imposed by law upon said City t
to rendax fire.-protection to citizens and residents of said City
of Doti #h Bend,".
It is futher agreed that if at the time a fire alarm is
communicated from said Town of Roseland to the fire Department
of said City, the said chemical engine is in service answering a
call in the said City of'South Bend, that the City shall not be
obligated to furnish said chemical for putting out a fire in saidbTown.
And in consideration of said service, said Town agrees to pay
to said City of South Bend the sum of One Hundred and fifty Dollars,
($150.00.) per annum, One half of said. sum shall be paid semi - annually
hereafter -, This contract- dlahh #egin from the time that it is executed
by both of said Boards and is finally ratified by the Common Council
of the city of South Bsad,and shall continue in force for Three years
from-the date of its taking effect.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF ' --the said parties have hereunto set their
names on the date first mentioned in duplicate.
