The second area for cranes at Eddy Street Commons is on the west side of Eddy Street. These cranes are lifting materials to construct the retail and residential space that will epitomize the new urbanism of this college town environment. The Legends Row condominiums overlook what will be a new gateway and a vital gathering place for city and university. Eddy Street Commons is having a positive economic impact on South Bend as nearly 800 people are employed during construction. Many more permanent jobs will be created to staff two hotels, and the retail and office space, which will complement the hundreds of town homes, apartments and condominiums at the site. 5. The fifth crane also promises job creation. It emerged recently at Innovation Park at Notre Dame, the campus portion of the city's dual -site, state - certified technology park. (I described the other site, Ignition Park, in February.) The first 54,000- square -feet building at Innovation Park is scheduled for completion in fall 2009. Innovation Park at Notre Dame will facilitate commercialization of all forms of research, by convening innovators throughout the entire Notre Dame community (including faculty, students, alumni and partners in the region) and beyond. Please do not set out trash or yard waste more than 24 hours before scheduled pickup. ♦ Place the container two feet from the curb (or alley line) with the handle facing toward the house, arrows facing toward curb /alley line. ♦ Remove container from the curb by the end of the collection day. ♦ "No Parking" imprint will help keep cars from blocking access to the containers. ♦ Residents may add their address on the side of the container for better tracking. ♦ Rinse containers frequently to eliminate odors. ♦ Only bagged trash into the container. ♦ Pet /animal waste should be sealed in a plas- tic bag and placed in the solid waste con- tainer. It should never be mixed in with yard waste or thrown into the street, creeks, stream, river, or storm drain. ♦ Keep lids closed to prevent rain, snow and animals getting into the container. ♦ Any item that does not fit inside the city trash container is considered a "special item" and requires special pickup. Residents re- ceive one free scheduled "special item" pickup per month, call 277 -8515 to schedule. Please do not place item at the curb until you have scheduled the pickup. ♦ New homeowners or renters within the city limits who find that there is no container on the new premises, should call 277 -8823 to request a container. ♦ Households will be monitored for the num- ber of containers being used and billed ac- cordingly. Board, has recently been hired as the new Executive Director of the NRC. The NRC was founded in 1993 to assist with building capacity for neighborhood organizations by providing grant and training assis- tance. In addition to neighborhood oriented groups, the board of direc- tors is comprised of representatives from the University of Notre Dame, IU South Bend, the United Religious Community, the City of South Bend, and South Bend Common Council. Since its inception the NRC has awarded several capacity building grants in addition to the very popular block party grants to qualifying neighborhood organizations; and has sent numerous neighborhood representatives to both regional and national neighborhood conferences. The organization plans to expand its outreach and the new executive director is working with the board of directors to prepare a strategic plan which will address the need to increase its community engagement and develop funds to realize these new goals.
