With the break in the weather, and now that crews
have caught up with snow removal, the city of South Bend will resume curbside tree
pickup this week. “Barring any additional major snow or ice, crews will now collect
”
trees on a call-in basis, stated Sam Hensley, Dir. of Streets. So far, approximately
1200+ trees have been recycled.

call the
Residents are asked to place trees at curbside only, and not in alleys and then
Division of Streets at 235-9244 to schedule a pickup.
Hensley also noted that
“many trees have been buried or covered by snow. Please assist crews in locating
trees for pickup by digging them out of the snow piles and then call us.”

In the event of major new winter weather, snow clearance takes precedence.
Residents can also drop off live trees at the following locations:
Rum Village Park
- - Ewing Ave. at Gertrude St.
Pinhook Park
- - 2800 block of Riverside Dr.
Veterans’ Memorial Park
- - Twyckenham at Northside Blvd.
Please Note: Drop off is for live Christmas trees ONLY – all ornaments and
decorations must be removed - no artificial trees or trash are permitted under any
circumstances! Placing of any items other than live Christmas trees is against the
South Bend Municipal Code and tickets can be issued.

The drop-off locations are open seven days a week from 7 am to 5 pm and signs are
posted directing residents to designated drop-off points at all three locations. All trees
are recycled into high quality mulch, at Organic Resources, which is then provided,
free, to South Bend residents.
- 30 -
