A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 79
1957 at 10:00 A.M. (CST). All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular
meeting were read and approved. Claims in the total amount of $5177.82 were approved
and ordered ppid to the following suppliers:

Applications for the Police Department were accepted and placed on file for Julius
Alex Halasz.
A petition was received from Hubert M. Weave, Colpaert Realty Corporation, for the
installat" -.on of street lighting on Huron Circle from Huron Street and return to Huron
Street; also, Huron Street from Lombardy Drive to Gladstone Avenue in the Belleville
Development. Petition hereby referred to the Electrical Department for investigation.
Fire Chief Andrzejewski appeared before the Board with reference for himself and
1 Assistant namely John Andert to attend a Conference in Indianapolis on the 14th and
15th days of January, 1957. Permission granted.
Upon recommendation by the Chief of the Police Department, the Board approves the
following promotion:
Lieut'. Chas. Borowski from Lieut. to rank of Captain.

Bert S. Cichowicz, Gity Sealer, requests permission to attend a course at the In-
structor School of Weights & Measures in Indianapolis, Indiana on the 9th, 10th, and 11th
days of January, 1957. Permission granted.
The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to advertise for 8 new automobiles and four
3- wheeled servi-cycles for the Police Department, as per specifications as submitted to
the Board by Police Chief.
A letter was received from the Firemen's Pension Fund Board with reference to grant-
ing a: monthly disability pension of $220.32 or 55 per cent of a fully paid first class
firemen's pension salary to Charles V. DeVleeschower, Jr. This pension to become effective
as of January 16, 1957. Board hereby approves recommendation of Pension Board.
The time now being 10:15 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Fire De-
partment sedan and fire apparatus were opened. Proofs of publication appeared in the
South Bend Iribune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in the Record with
and affidavit signed by V. DeCanio were submitted to the Board and found sufficient.
The bids received read as follows:
Freeman- Spicer Company A non - collusion affidavit and a
520 South Lafayette St. certified check in the amount of
South Bend, Indiana $229.00 accompanied the bid.

The bid is now taken under consideration by the Board and is hereby awarded to said
Freeman- Spicer Company.

Bids are now taken under advisement and after due consideration by the Board the
contract is hereby awarded to the Maxim Motor Company.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was ad-
journed at 10:30 A.M. (CST).
