A regular meeting of

FIRE DEPARTMENT
Fire Chief Andrzjewski appeared before the Board and requested permission
to send Cap. Carl Martz and Lieut. Harry Lodyga to Motor School in Indianapolis on
the 20th and 21st days of June, 1956. Permission granted.
An application for the Fire Department was examined and placed on file for
Jack Raymond Bland.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Captain Hazinski appeared before the Board with reference to request per-
mission for a military leave of absence from the Police Department from July 21,
to and including August 51 1956 and also informs the Board that Lieutenant Klaybor
will be in charge during absence of Capt. Hazinski. Request granted.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
A petition was received for the improvement of Sheridan Avenue from Lincoln -
way West to Keller Street by the construction of street lighting on Sheridan Avenue.
,Petition referred to Electrical Department.
Ira Hunsberger, Superintendent of the ,Electrical Department., recommends
that a 4000 _.lumen light be installed at Jefferson & 27th Streets; Jefferson and 28th
Streets; Hasting & 34th Streets; 725 South 34th Street; Club and Tuxedo Drives;
Dunham & Jackson Streets; and at the alley on Marion Street between Main Street and
Lafayette Boulevard.
Also, it is the recommendation of the Electrical Department Superintendent
that the following lights should be increased to 4000 lumen: Thomas Street & Hoose Ct.
Grant Street at Railroad Tracks; Brookfield Street from Railroad Tracks to Western Avenue;
Harris Street near Western A enue; Walnut Street near Western Avenue and Jefferson St;
Kociusckd Street near Western Avenue; and Chapel Lane on McPherson Street. Board now
approves recommendation of Electrical Department Superintendent
I Jim Wicks and others appeared before the Board with reference to the pro-
posed arterial street lighting on Miami Street from Ridgedale to Ireland Roads and sub-
mitted to the Board a petition which reads as follows: We, the undersigned proper-
ty owners along and upon Miami- Street in the City of South Bend, hereby petition your
honorable Board that it instruct the City Electrical Department to erect the proposed
street lights upon the east side of Miami Street in the territory covered between Ridge -
dale Road and the northerly limits of the Erskine Park Golf Course. It is our understand-
ing that the proposed plan at-this time calls for these electrical street lights to bee -
rected upon the west side of "Miami Street in the area above described. Matter taken under
advisement until next Monday, June 25, 1956.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT
This Board now reviewed the bids for the Health Department cars and awarded
the contract to the Scherman- Schaus- Freeman Company:
SCHERMAN- SCHAUS- FREEMAN COMPANY A non - collusion affidavit and a
520 South Lafayette Street certified `check in the amount of
South Bend, Indiana $448.00 accompanied the bid*

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
