Chief Dutrieux appeared before the Board and matters pertaining to
s department were discussed.
Chief Dutrieux submitted to the Board a proposed sick leave schedule
or the Police Department which reads as follows:
L. Employees of Fire and Police Department shall be granted up to thirty
(30) days Annual sick leave from January 1 to December 31 of each calen-
iar year upon the discretion of Chief of said Department. However, this..
shall not apply to Employees who hove suffered such illness or injure
Nhile in performance of duty on said Department.
2. All Employees of the Fire and Police Department shall notify their Sup-
erior Officer of any illness within eight (8) hours of time of illness.
Except in cases of emergency, notice shall be given to the Employee's Sup-
erior Officer of request to admittance to any hospital and further notice
of acceptance to said hospital.
Every Employee shall deliver to his Superior Officer proof of his ill-
ness, said proof being a medical report from his Physician. The Chief of
the Department of the specific Employee shall determine whether or not Bich
leave shall be allowed based upon said report.% e r r! >,_9
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Ira Hunsberger, recommends that a 6000 lumen light be installed in the
800 block of Portage Avenue. Board approves Mr. Hunsbergerts recommen-
ation.
Ira Hunsberger recommends that a 4000 lumen light be installed in the
200 block of Bruce Street at the intersection of Bruce and Webster St.
oard approves Mr. Hunsberger}s recommendation.
Special Police Officer bonds were approved for Joseph J. Horvath and
1phonse Zack.
Applications of the Auxiliary Police were examined and ordered filed
or Joan Patricia Taylor.
Applications for the Police Department were examined and ordered filed
or Eugene Walentine Sikorski.
Applications for the Fire Department were examined and ordered filed
or Aaron Brown, John Stephen Fezy, Norbert Joseph Hechlinski, Ernest
ugene Stachowski, and Richard C. Szweda.
There being no further business to come before he Board, the meet -

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
;r 1 2, 1956 at 10 :00 A. M. (DST). All members were present. Minutes
p evious regular meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the
ount of $92,081.36 were approved. Claims of the following suppliers
total amount of $26,528.11 were approved and ordered paid:

FIRE DEPARTMENT
Fire Chief Andrzjewski appeared before the Board with reference to
the application of Steve Flowers for Service Pension. Application approved
and effective as of April 15, 1956.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Dutrieux appeared before the Board with reference to request of
Lieutenant Stephen J. Ciesielski for promotion from Lieutenant to Captain.
Promotion approved and effective April 1, 1956.

Request of Patrolman Richard J. Podell for promotion from Patrolman to
Sergeant. Board approved promotion and said Podell will continue assignment
in Board of Health. Effective April 1, 1956.
Officer F. W. Voss request permission for leave of absence from Police
Department to make short tour of duty for the U. S. Air Force during the per-
iod of April 13, 1956 to April 28, 1956, inclusive. Permission granted.
Sergeant Harmon requests permission for a fifteen day leave of absence
to attend a short tour of duty with the Army Air Force during the period of
April 13, 1956 to April 27, 1956. Request granted.
A report from Officers Zeider and Teske was submitted to the Board
with reference to the hazardous condition from the unfinished foundation of
the church in the 800 block West Ridgedale Road. The foundation is located
in the area of two highly populated children areas, South-more Heights and
Miami Hills, and is a great danger to these children. The Board has there-
fore authorized that a notice be sent to the owners of said property and that
proper barricading be made immediately.
The special police bond for Robert Gammage, 1304 Catalpa Street has been
denied by the Board.
Application for the Police Department was accepted and ordered filed for
Ronald Joseph Toppel.
The monthly report of the Police Department for the month of February
was accepted and filed.
