A regular meeting of the Board of Safety was held on Monday, Febru-
ary 20, 1956 at 10:00 A. M. (CST). All members were present. Minutes
of the previous regualr meeting were read and approved. Claims of the
following suppliers in the total amount of $8759.75 were approved and
ordered paid;

Chief Andrzejewski appeared before the Board with reference to the
leave of absence of Charles J. Kalill and the Board has authorized that
Mr. Kalill submit proof to the Board that his son is ill and is necess-
ary for his son to reside-in another climate.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Ira Hunsberger, Supt. of Electrical Department, recommended that
a 4000 lumen light be installed on the railroad side of Webster & Huron
Streets. Request granted.
A petition was received requesting that a street light be install -
ed at 36th and Jefferson Streets. Referred to Electrical Department..

POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department was authorized to post "No Skating" signs on
the Lagoon in McKinley Terrace.

Applications for the Fire Department were examined and ordered
filed for the following: Robert Louis Beesey, Anton Jacob Csenar,
Roy Hugh Jacks, Loren Jay Kline, Chris Arthur Kovacevich, Donald
Edward Lukaxiewicz, James John Peli, Charles Richard Quimby, Bernard
Joseph Rzepnicki, and Joseph Frank Winicki.
Applications for the Police Department were examined and ordered
filed for the following: Charles Richard Quimby, William Vessele,Stoy-
noff, and Bernard John S*italski.
There being no further business to come before the B ard, the meet-

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Dutrieux appeared before the Board and matters pertaining to
his department were discussed.
Sergeant Robert R. Urgonskiof the South Bend Police Force requests
for demotion from Sergeant to Patrolman. Request granted.
The Board of Public Safety approved the recommendation of the Chief
of Police that Officer John Weinzetl be promoted to Sergeant as of March 11
1956•
A request was submitted to the Board for Sergeant Wiskotoni to be ex-
cused from Police Duty from March 4 to the 18, 1956 for active duty in the
United States Air Force during that period. Request granted.
The Board approved the bond for Special Police Officer in and for the
City of South Ben d, Indiana for Fred Eugene Dubbs, 215 Prairie Avenue,
Mishawaka and Paul F. Righter, R. R. #4, Box 337, South Bend, Indiana.
The monthly report of the South Bend Police Department for the month
of January, 1956 was accepted and filed.
