JANUARY 3, 1956
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on
Tuesday, January 3, 1956 at 11:00 A.M. All members were present.
The Board of Safety ratified all action and business of the
January 1, 1956 special Board of Safety Meeting.
Irving J. Smith, City Attorney, was named chairman of the Board
of Public Safety.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Chief Dutrieux was present and matters pertaining to his Department
were discussed.
Applications for tlB Police Department were received from Lawrence
Wilson, Toothman, William Marquis Arbuckle and James Orlowski, and were
placed on file.
All action taken by the Board at a special meeting held on Sunday,
January 1, 1956 with regard to promotions and demotions in the Police
Department were ratified.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Chief Andrzejewski was present and matters pertaining to his depart-
ment were discussed.
All action taken by the Board at a special meeting on -Sunday, January
1956, with regard to promotions and demotions in the Fire Department were
ratified.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
Ira Hunsberger, Electrical Superintendent, was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.

Bert Cichowicz, Inspector of Weights and Measures, presented a re-
port of activities for the month of December. This was receiv ed and
noted.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Chief Andrze,jewski was present and matters pertaining,to his depart-
ment were discussed.
The Chief requested the Board to approve the purchase of a radio for
one of the Fire Department cars in accordance with specifications sub-
mitted. The Clerk of the Board was directed to take the steps necessary
to acquire this equipment.
Applications for the Fire Department were received and placed on
file for Martin Roman Kopinski, Ernest Jack Reed and Lawrence Ronald
Banicki.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Dutrieux was present and matters pertaining to his department
were discussed.
The Chief presented a request for the purchase of eight new cars
for the Police Department and also for the purchase of eight mobile
radio units for the said cars, according to specifications submitted.
The Clerk of the Board was directed to advertise for bids for the cars
and radio equipment. The chief informed the Board that there will be
a trade in of six used cars.
The Chief presented reports from Edward G. Radecki and Richard J.
Gillen, members of the Police Department requesting permission to re-
tire on Pension and asking for the customary retirement leave. A mo-
tion was made to accept the retirements of Edward G. Radecki and Richard
J. Gillen effective February 6, 1.956.
The firm of Crumpacker, May, Beamer, Levy, and Searer, by Arthur A.
May, as attorney for Erwin F. Kowalski filed a petition for dismissal
of the proceedings against Erwin F. Kowalski. This matter was continued
until February 13, 1956 at 10 :00 A.M.
Applications for the Police Department were received and ordered
fled for Wilmer Eugene Grimes, Larry Eugene Hill, Edward Leonard Durrell,
Vincent John Nagy and John Andrew Haney. -
A petition for Auxiliary School Patrol was received and ordered
filed for Marcelle Martin Gray.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Mr. Hunsberger was present and matters pertaining to his department
were discussed.
Mr. Hunsberger presented a report wherein he recommends the installa-
tion of 4000 lumen lights at the intersection of Huey and Bergen Streets
and Pershing and Huey Stteets. Upon his recommendation the Board directed
that he order the lights installed.
