HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/29/1955 Board of Public Safety MinutesThe Police Department applications of W. Coolidge Bingham and Ervin John Gerschoffer were examined and ordered placed on file. FIRE DE PAR TlIUa T : Fire Chief, R. J. Duck, being present, the Board took up the matter of the awarding of contract for the new 1000 gpm. Pumper unit, and proceeded with the reading of the report of the committee of three, appointed at the Mayorts request, to make recommendation in this matter. .The Board concuf�red in -the findings and recommendation of the committee and awarded contract to the 'Mack Manufacturing Corporation, in the total amount of $18,061.00, and directed the Clerk to proceed with the issuance of formal purchase order accordingly. Fire Chief Duck then brought to the Board's attention his department's need for 2900 feet of double- jacket 21" fire hose. The Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the required advertising for bids. ELECTRICAL DEPARTk NT: Supt. Ira Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of a 4000 lumen light at each alley intersection with Altgeld Street, between Miami and Marine Streets was approved by the Board. The installation of a 4000 lumen light, upon the recommendation of Supt. Hunsberger, was approved for each of the following intersections: Brummit Lane and Edison Road Buetter Lane and Edison Road Browne Lane and Edison Road Manchester Drive and Edison Road Helmen Drive and Edison Road A petition, dated August 16, 1955, for the installation of a street light at the intersection of Ridgedale, High Street and woldhaven Street, CD was referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation and report. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11 :35 A. Y. Gillen, being present, again took up with the Board the matter of the City's responsibility for.medical service rendered to paupers while in police custody. After some discussion it was the consensus of opinion of the Board, that the City would be re- sponsible for the first treatment, which would be in the nature of an emergency, for any further medical services rendered °such prisoner, the hospital should demand payment from the Township Trustee in his capacity as overseer of the poor. The Police Department application of Leo.Losicki, was examined and ordered filed.- ELECTRIC.AAL DEPARTMENT: The recommendation of Superintendent Ira Hunsberger, that a 4000 lumen light be installed on the southeast corner of Ridgedale Road and Woldhaven Drive, was approved by the Board. A petition, dated August 16, 1955, for the installation of a street light at the intersection of Woodlawn and.Riverside Drive was examined and referred to Superintendent Ira Hunsberger for investigation and report. There being no further business to come before the Board; meeting thereupon adjourned; the time then being 10:35 A.M. CST.
