A. regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
August 8, 1955 at 10 :00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the
previous meeting were read and approved. Salary claims, in the total
ount of X81,558.01+, were approved. Claims of the following suppliers,
in the total amount of $3,216.31, were approved and ordered paid:

Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, requested the granting of
fifteen day leave for Captain Russell L. Hunt, for the purpose of attend -
ing the annual field training course from August 21st to September lath,
'for the 764ith Amphibious Tank Battalion, of which Captain Hunt is an officer.
Request was granted.
The Police Department applications of Geo. F. Forray, Henry F. Ganus,
is J. Mlarteno and Geo. J. Sipotz were examined and ordered filed.
CTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
Supt. Ira Hunsberger was present and receommended to the Board the
installation of a 4000 lumen light at each of the following locations:
S. W. corner, Keller and Kenmore Streets
Midway between Ewing Avenue and Altgeld Street, on the
west side of Vernon Street at rear entrance to Ridgedale
Presbyterian Church.
The Board approved these installations.
The recommendation. of Supt. Hunsberger that the - underground light
at the intersection of Vernon and Altgeld be increased from 1000 lumen to
LI 00 lumen was approved by the Board.
IRE DEPARTMENT:
Fire Chief, R. J. Duck, being present, recommended to the Board the
ppointment of J. Robert Osborn to be a member of the Fire Department
n the regulation probationary basis, effective Monday, August 15, 1955.
ppointment was so ordered.,
The Fire Department applications of Elmer E. Kovach, Robert LeRoy
artz, and Frank S. Vargo, were examined and ordered placed on file.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES:
Tests Summary for the month of July was examined and ordered filed.
A copy of the annual_ report of the Inspector of Weights and Measures,
as submitted to the Indiana State Board of Health, was examined and
ordered filed.
The time =now being 10 :00 A. M. C.S.T., it was so announced and the
Board then proceeded with the opening of bids to provide the^Fire Depart -
ment with one 1000 G. P, M. pumper, which were found to be as follows:

This bid was found to have an improper and defective
non- collusion affidavit and was, thereupon, rejected
without reading or consideration, and certified checks
for $894.50 and "$800.00 which accompanied the bid
were returned.
The bids were taken under advisement for tabulation and further study
and the Board advised those present that announcement of successful
bidder would be made at a later date.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:55 A.M.

First appeared before the Board, Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, and
resented a request for",RL two weeks leave of absence for Officer Norman
sarey to attend annual field training for the 764th Amphibious Tank
attalion, in which organization Officer Esarey holds the rank of Master
ergeant. The Board approved and granted the required leave.
The attention of the Chief was called to a repeated parking violation
hick, due to an apparent oversight on the part of the area Traffic Officer,
s causing unfavorable comment.
