April 18, 1955
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
April 18, 1955, at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of
the previous meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following
suppliers, in the total amount of $5667.64, were approved and ordered
paid:

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT.
The request of Supt. Ira Hunsberger for permission to attend the
Midwestern Section meeting of the International Municipal Signal Associ-
ation to be held in Moline, Illinois, April 20th to 23rd inclusive, was
granted by the Board.
A letter addressed to the Electrical Department from the Hoffmann
Hotels Company, pertaining to the damage to the Hotel Hoffman sign,
caused by the breaking of a cable from which traffic directional signs
were suspended, was next given attention by the Board. The Board
approved payment of the indicated damage and directed claim be obtained
from the Hoffmam Hotels Company in proper form to be passed for payment
at the next regular meeting of the Board.
Supt. Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of a 4000
lumen light at the intersection of Weist Lane and Springbrook Drive
nd at the intersection of Ridgedale Road and Caroline Street was approved
y the Board.
OLICE DEPARTMENT:
The time now being 10:00 A. M. C.S.T., as advertised for the opening
f bids to provide the Police Department with a 1955 Model Ambulet, it
as so announced and the single bid received, was found to be as follows;
SCHERMAN SCHAUS FREEMAN CO. A non - collusion affidavit
LAFAYETTE AND SOUTH STREET and certified check for
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA $130.00 accompanied the
bid.

Capt. M. J. Voelkel, being present, and advising the Board that bid
iecif ications cover in exact. detail the Police Departmentts requirements
r this vehicle, the Board awarded the contract and directed the Clerk
issue formal purchase order.
The Police Department application of Daniel A. Jaworski was examined
d ordered placed on file.

FIRE DEPARTMENT.
The Fire Department application of Gerald A. Kazmierczak was
examined and ordered placed on file.
. There being. no further ..business to come before the Board, the
meeting was.adjourned at 11;15 A. M.

SPECIAL MEETING
April 20, 1955
A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held in the
office of the Board at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, April 20, 1955. All
members were present.
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, placed before the Board
his.recommendation for the.appointment as members of the Fire Department,
the following applicants:
Cornelius R. Niezgodski
James K. Ransberger
Richard D. Wegner
Applicant Niezgodski having successfully passed the medical examiners
for the City and for the Firements Pension Board, was appointed a
member of the Fire Department effective May 1, 1955.
James K. Ransberger and Richard D. Wegner were appointed members of
the Fire Department -, effective May 1, 1955, contingent upon their
passing satisfactorily the required physical examinations.
The Board made these appointments subject to the regular six months
probationary period.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 1:50 P.M.
