IRE DEPARTMENT:
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, the Board immediately took
p the matter of bids for.a 1000 g.p.m, pumper, opened at the regular
meeting of the Board on Monday, March 28, 1955• The Board, being presented
with the report.of a committee of three, appointed by the Northern Indiana
Motor Carriers Association, at the request of Mayor John A. Scott, covering
t eir findings and recommendation, after a thorough study of the bids and
i spection of equipment of the two bidders, gave careful consideration to
t is report, and accepting the committeets recommendation, awarded the
contract to The Seagrave Corporation, subject to the confirmation of the
C mmon Council. The Board directed that the Committee's
a d the members of the committee informed of the Board's apprec be filed,
t eir time and effort in the peciation of
preparation of the report.
The Board next examined three quotations received from automotive
repair shops, in connection with damaged 1953 Ford Victoria, the property
of Jerry Notteboom, 121 So. Meade Street, involved in accident with city-
owned vehicle operated by city employee, Robert Laughlin. The city -owned
hicle, being found to be insured; report of accident and the repair quota -
'ons were ordered to be delivered to the insurers, William Happ & Son, Inc.
or disposition.
The Board then examined the quotation of the Modern Decorating Company
for the exterior painting of Hose House No.
s of $185.00. It was the consensus of opinion 4' (one coati in the total
reasonable offer in view of the work involved, as specifhed npthee not a
an the Board thereupon accepted the offer and directed ' the Clerk to issue
formal purchase order to confirm.
Fire Department applications of Emiel Fabyan, Carl J. Mitts, and Donald
E. Whitacre were examined and ordered placed on file.
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
Aril 11, 1955, at 10:00 A. M.
All members were present. Minutes of
the
previous meeting were read and
approved.

POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Police Department application of Jeff Rush, Jr., was examined and
ordered placed on file..
The Board next took note of petition dated April 9, 1955, signed by
approximately twenty property - owners in the vicinity of the 2700 and 2800
blocks of Bonds Avenue, and addressed to the Board, requesting the land-
scaping of the parkways and the prohibiting of playground activities upon these
parkways. This matter, being deemed by the Board to come .under the juris-
diction of the Superintendent of Parks, was ordered to be referred, includ-
ing an` accompanying 1 ^tter signed by Russell G.'Hunt, to Superintendent
Ralph A. Newman, with the'request' that an explanation be given the Board
regarding the-indicated misuse of the Bonds Avenue-.parkways.'
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
Supt. Ira Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of a 6000
lumen light on the northeast corner of Ford Street and Scenic Drive was
approved by the Board.
A recommendation to increase from 1000 lumen to 4000 lumen the light
located midway between Laurel and McPherson Streets, on Napier, was also
given the Board's approval.
There being no further business to aQme before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 11:35 A. M.
