to provide the remainder of the department's needed supplies, in exact
accord with their bid, dated February 25, 1955.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES:
The February Report of Bert Cichowicz, Inspector of Weights and
Measures, was examined and ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A. M.

FIRE DEPARTMENT:',
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, brought to the Board's
ttention his department's need for a new triple combination pumper of
of less than 1,000 g.p.m. rated capacity. The Board directed the Clerk
o proceed with the required advertising.
OLICE DEPARTMENT:
Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, recommended to the
oard, the demotion of John S. Weinzetl from the rank of sergeant to that
f patrolman.
Chief Gillen further recommended that Patrolman John R. Niezgodski be
omoted to the rank of sergeant.
These recommendations being considered by the Board as in the best
interests of the department, were approved and effective as of Wednesday,
March 16, 1955.
Chief Gillen then presented to the Board a letter from the Traffic
Institute, Northwestern University, announcing the awarding to Sgt. Carroll
I. Parfitt, a grant of $127.21 to.cover tuition, transportation and meals,
for attendance at the Supervision.of Personnel Course offered from March
21 to April 1, 1955. The Board approved Sgt. Parfitt's attendance and
directed the Chief to inform the officer accordingly,
The Police Department application of James D. Heck was examined and
bordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
A petition for the installation of two street lights in the 2000
block of West Ewing Avenue, for improved lighting from the Prairie Avenue
intersection to Grant Street, was examined and referred to Superintendent
Hunsberger for investigation and report.
Superintendent Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of
a 4000 lumen light on Howard Street, between Talbot and Jacob Street, at
Pole No. 1236 -101, was approved by the Board.
In the matter of petitions, dated February 28, 1955, calling for
installation of street lights at the railroad crossings on Florence Street
Sibley Avenue, the Board approved the recommendation of Superintendent
Hunsberger to install a 4000 lumen light at '-each of these locations,
and directed the Clerk to notify the N.y.C.R.R. Co. officials concerned
to be present for a discussion of this matter at the next regular meeting
of the Board, Monday, March 21, 1955•
The Board next examined and ordered filed copies of letters to the
Trustees of Portage and German Townships, over the signature of Fire Chief
R. J. Duck, concerning impossibility .cif rendering service in event of
grass fires, and pointing out that such service is not included nt the
City's contracts with the townships.
The Fire DepartmenVs report covering runs made to fires outside the
City limits, for the period of February lst to February 12th inclusive,
was examined and ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11 :30 A. M.
