Both recommendations were approved by the Board to be effective

First appeared before the Board, Sergeant Rose of the Air Force
Recruiting Service with a request to be permitted to advertise this branch
of the service by the use'of bumper signs on City Police cars. Permission
was refused, the Board suggesting instead the possible use of this ad-
vertising on taxicabs.
POLICE DEPARm5ENT:
Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, recommended for
appointment as special police officers the following three employees
of the Bendix Corporation:
Donald Lee Hayden
Richard J. Isbell
Charles R. Johnson
The Board accordingly approved and signed the appointments.
Chief Gillen further recommended the appointment as special police
officer, Grace Harriet Wilcox, an employee of Robertson's Department
Store. This appointment was, thereupon, approved and signed by the Board.
FIRE DEPART=T:
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, reported to the Board
concerning a minor accident on December 29th which occurred at the inter
section of Walnut and Thomas Streets, and involved a piece of Fire Depart-
ment equipment. Icy condition of streets was conceded to have been the
cause of the accident.
FIRE DEPARTAENT:
Architect Forrest' "R West, = representing the architectural firm of West
R� Spin:ney, then appeared before the-Board; together with representatives
of the successful bidders for the- construction of Fire Station No. 15,
Messrs. Fred Anderson, Fred Hotopp and Robert Koontz,and proceeded with the
signing of the contracts, blueprints and specifications.

City Inspector of Weights and Measures, has resigned his position as
County Inspector of Weight and Pleasures of St. Joseph County, Indiana,
effective December 31, 1954• Mr. Cichowicz will continue to serve as
City Inspector of Weights and Measures of South Bend, Indiana and the
performance of his duties shall be confined exclusively within the'city
limits of the City of South Bend, Indiana.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:20 A. M.
