Rural runs made by Engine companies 11 and.12, under dates of ptember 25 and 28 respectively, as covered by Captaints and Lieutenants ily Reports, were examined and ordered filed. Fire Department Injuries Report covering injuries sustained by Fire D partment personnel under dates of July 29, August 13, and September 7 14, and 24, was examined and ordered filed. TRICAL DEPARTMENT Superintendent Ira Hunsberger, being present, submitted a report on a lighting survey ordered by Mayor John A. Scott, and made by the super - i tendent, in company with Councilman Niezgodski. Their findings and r commendations for improved lighting in the area covered by the report were accepted and approved by the :Hoard.. Superintendent Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of a 00 lumen light at the alley entrance on LaFayette Blvd. between North ore Drive and Marquette Avenue, was approved by the Board. A petition by Whitcomb & Keller, Inc., under date of October 4, 1954 for the installation of a street light at a point midway between Greenlawn Avenue and the light at north entrance to John Adams High School, was examined and referred to Superintendent Ira Hunsberger for investigation and report. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 11;05 A.M. J. Gillen, being present, discussed with the Board the matter of the enforcement of City Ordinance applying to various types of door -to -door peddling, with a view to determining the form of peddling covered by ordinance, as differentiated from such forms as would fall into the classification of interstate commerce. Other matters pertinent to the Police Department were also given discussion. A letter covering action taken by vote of the members of Order of Police, St. Joseph Valley Lodge #36, on Thursday, was read, and the Clerk was directed to embody this letter of these minutes, as follows: "Mr. James Bickel City Controller South Bend, Indiana Dear Sir: the Fraternal October 14, 1954, as a part A vote was taken: Thursday, October 14, 1954, between hours of 12 noon and midnight, by the members of the Fraternal Order of Police, St. Joseph Valley Lodge #36, as to what type of Insurance plan, they would like to carry on the payroll deduction plan. We had three different type of insurance plans, and this is the outcome of the vote: 108 ballots cast for Blue Cross -Blue Shield Plan 11 ballots cast for Policemen B.A.R.E. plan l ballot cast for Police- Firemen B.A.R.E. plan. A total of 120 ballots were cast. We at this time petition, the city to be able to take this new Blue Cross -Blue Shield Plan, which will cost $8.70 family policy and $3.20 sing le policy on the payroll deduction plan. This plan can be put in effect as of Nov. 15, 1954, and if this is agreeable with the City, the Blue Cross representative stated that a letter will have to be forthcoming from the Controller's office to that effect. The Police Department applications of Loren McClain Bussert and Richard D. Pyle,were examined and ordered placed on.file. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: Superintendent Ira Hunsber er, being present, recommended to the Board, the installation of two 2900 lumen lights, one at the alley between Western Avenue and Napier Street, and one at the alley between Napier and Thomas Streets, both on Maple Street. The Board, approved both installations A petition bearing fifty -two signatures, requesting a street light at the intersection of Hines and Walnut Streets, was examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation and report. A petition for the installation of streetlights on Southbrook Drive between York Road and Ridgedale, and a petition requesting a light, approximately halfway between Colfax and McKinley on North Coquillard Drive, were examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation and report. 1 The Board next examined the request of Commiteeman Charles J. Glueckert of the 6th precinct, 4th District, to make use of former Fire Station No. 3, (now used as the municipal radio communications center) as a polling place for the coming election. Request was granted and the Clerk directed to so notify the Committeeman. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11 :15 A. M. L. rannan, Chairman of the Electrical Board. It was suggested and conceded hat a meeting should be called in this connection, with Messrs. Hunsberger, rannan, and Harrison present for the purpose of arriving at a definite greement in the matter involved. Mr. Brannants letter was ordered placed a file. The Board approved the recommendation of Supt. Hunsberger for the stallation of a 4000 lumen light at each of the following locations: Southwest corner of Hine and Walnut Streets Southwest corner of Southbrook Drive and Privet Lane Southeast corner of Southbrook Drive and Caroline Street Southwest corner of Southbrook Drive and Ridgedale Drive. The Board examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation report, a petition calling for the installation of a street light in alley between George Avenue and Sample Street.
