Schultz. The Board directed the Fire Chief to bring Fireman Schultz
before the Board at the next regular meeting, Monday, June 7th.
The Fire Protection Agreement between Portage Township and the
City of South Bend, for the year terminating December 31, 1954, and
bearing the signatures of the Township Trustee and two members of the
Advisory Board, was _next examined, approved, and signed by the Board.
Reports covering runs made by Engine Co. 11 into outlying area
on May 3rd and May 20th, were examined and ordered filed.
Report of Engine Company No. 3, a run made into Clay Township
on a false alarm, under date of May 22, was examined and ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board,'the
meeting was adjourned at 11 :05 A. M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
June 7th, 1954, at 10 :00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of
the previous meeting were read and approved. Salary Claims in the
amount of $82,419.57, were approved. Claims of the following suppliers

FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, placed with the Board
architects plans and specifications supplied by Maurer & Maurer., covering
an addition to be constructed for Fire Station No. 4. The Board examined
the plans and directed the Clerk to proceed with the required leagl adver-
tising to obtain bids on this construction.
Fire Chief Duck then brought to the Board's attention the case of
Fireman Robert J. Shultz, Jr., stating that in accordance with the Boardts
request he had brought Fireman Shultz for appearance before the Board.
The Board reviewed the Cass, the Fire Chief stating that the same bills
F m n u paid, as was the situation when Fireman Shultz was brought before
Reaioard on Marchlst.

Fireman Shultz was then called before the Board and was informed that
he has continued in violation of Section 27 of Article Yll of the Fire
Department Rules and Regulations in disregard of the Board's orders to
satisfy his creditors by not later than May lst. After some discussion
of the firemants financial situation bringing to light certain mitigating
circumstances, the Board extended a further thirty day period of grace,
requesting that Fireman Schultz report to the Board on Tuesday, July 6th,
at which time he states he will have his financial affairs under control.
The Fire Department Injuries Reports for the months of April and May
re examined and ordered filed.
A Captain and Lieutenant's Daily Report for Engine Co. No. 21, bear-
ing date of May 29, 1954, submitted by Lieut. John Filchak, covering
a Clay Township run, was examined and ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
eting was adjourned at 11:45 A. M.

First appeared before the Board Captain I,% J. Voelkel, and presented
;he recommendations of Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, for a changed
status of personnel, as follows:
Frederick W. Voss to be demoted from the rank of
Sergeant to the rank of Patrolman. Voss is being
relieved of his duties as Desk Sergaent on Third
Detail and is being assigned to the Second Detail
Patrol Division.
Glenn W. Zubler to be promoted from the rank of
Patrolman to the rank of Sergeant and is to assume
the duties of Desk Sergeant on Third Detail.
The Board approved the recommendations to be effective as of
e 16, 1954.
