A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
March 29, 1954, at 10 :00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the
previous meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers,
in the total amount of $2459.89, were approved and ordered paid:

POLICE DEPARTMENT.*
First appeared before the Board, Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen,
with the required form and his recommendation for the appointment of
L. C. Barnes, employee of Collection Service, Inc., as a special police
officer in and for the City of South Bend. The Board approved the
appointment, which was, thereupon, signed and sealed.
The recommendation of Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, for the
increase of the deposit required for the supplying of an official
Special Police Badge, from the nominal amount of one dollar to that of
five dollars, for the purpose of satisfactory coverage of the actual
value of the badge and the added incentive for the return of these badges
upon cancellation of special police appointments, was next considered and
approved by the Board, effective this date.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
Upon the recommendation of Supt. Ira Hunsberger, 4000 lumen lights
are to be installed, with the approval of the Board, at the following
locations:
Northeast corner of the intersection of Parkway Lane and
Meadow Lane
At 2633 Gertrude Street-, 300 feet south of Light No.J304 -110
Opening of bids was then announced in accordance with 10941 advertising,
and the Board proceeded in this matter, as follows:

A bid submitted by the Hazard Tnsulated Wire Works Division of the
Okonite Company was rejected upon examination, inasmuch as it had not
been submitted on the form prescribed by the Indiana State Board of
Accounts.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 12 :00 otclock noon.
