A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
March 22, 1954,-at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of
the previous meetin were read and approved. Salary claims, in the
amount of $79,835.09, were approved. Claims of the following suppliers,
in the total amount of $3,179.00, were approved and ordered paid:

Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, first appeared before the Board
presenting the required forms for appointment as special police officers
for Allen E. Kester, Jr. Garwood E. Schroff, Virgil L. Sharp, and Richard
C.Weldon. Upon the recommendation of Chief Gillen, the Board approved
all four appointments forthwith.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
The Board reviewed bids received to supply twenty new fire alarm
boxes, and upon recommendation of Supt. Ira Hunsberher, the Board accepted
the bid of the Gamewell Company, as being in the best interests of the City,
and directed the Clerk to issue the required purchase order.
The recommendation of Supt. Hunsberger for the installation of a
4000 lumen light, at the intersection of West Washington and Lake Street,
was approved by the Board.
A petition, dated March 16, 1954, bearing the signatures of six
property owners of the 2600 block Gertrude Street, requesting a street
light, was examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation
and report.
A petition, dated March 15, 1954, requesting additional street
ighting and fire alarm boxes for Parkway Lane, from Sample Street to
eadow Lane, was examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for inves-
igation and report.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
eeing was adjourned at 11:40 A. M.
