This being the time set for the opening of bids to-provide the ten
cars needed as replacements by the Police Department, it was discovered
no bids had been received. In consequence the Board directed the Clerk
to proceed to re- advertise for this equipment.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 11 :45 A. M.

POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Police Department applications of Glen D. Arnot and David A.
Olmstead were examined and ordered placed on file.
FIRE DEPARTI ENT:
The Fire Department application of Robert E. Cornelis was examined
and ordered placed on file.
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, brought to the attention
of the Board, his departmentts need for certain tools, consisting of
one 2411 Delta jig saw with.$ 1 -1/3 H.P. m6tor', one drum and surface
sander with 1/3 H.P. motor complete with belt and pulley, one Delta
shaper complete with belt and pulley, one Craftsman mitre box and saw
complete, together with an assortment of cutters, blades, router tools
and additional pulleys, the entire lot of which are available at a total
cost of $300.00. The Chief presented appraisals by three qualified
appraisers valuing this equipment in excess of $350.00.
In view of the need for the equipment and the opportunity presented
to secure it at a definite saving in price, the Board approved the pur-
chase and directed the Clerk to issue formal purchase order to cover.
There being only two quotations rece.ivecd from the
contractors solicited for bids for the painting of the
walls and stairways of Central Fire Station, the Board
lowest bid and awarded contract to Holm of Paints.,-418
directing the Clerk to issue formal purchase order, en,

The report of R. F. Mahone concerning need for improved lighting
on Bendix Drive from Western Avenue to Washington, was referred to
Supt. Ira Hunsberger for investigation and report.
Petition bearing twelve signatures of residents in the 700 block
East Oakside, calling for improved lighting at the intersection of
Erskine Boulevard and Oakside, stipulating, however, that no change be
made in the location of this light, was referred by the Board to Supt.
Hunsberger for his investigation and recommendations.
The recommendation of Supt. Hunsberger,,for the installation of
a 4000 lumen light at each of the following locations, was given the
approval of the Board:
Intersection of Wellington Street and Elwood Avenue
Intersection of Wellington Street and Bulla Street
Intersection of Wellington Street and Keller Street
Intersection of Illinois Street and Keller Street
Northwest corner Bowman and Leer Street intersection
Southwest corner Green Street and Goodland Avenue inter-
section.
The Board sustained the findings of Supt. Hunsberger, in connection
with request for street light at southwest corner of Gertrude Street,
and Fairview Avenue, investigation having shown this location to be
more than 300 feet from existing street lighting circuit.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
