Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Salary claims, in.the total amount of $74,239.57, were approved. Cichowicz, Inspector of Weights & Measures, submitted the Annual Report of Division of Weights and Measures from July 7, 1952 to June 30, 1953• The Board examined this report and ordered same placed on file. The Board approved the appointment of Steve Lupa, 1514 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana, an employee of Oliverts Plant,.#2, as a special police officer in and for the City of South Bend, Indiana, upon the recommendation of Chief Gillen. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: Next appeared before the Board, Ira Hunsberger, Electrical Superintendent, recommending the installation of a 4000 lumen light on the northeast corner of Carlisle and Calvert Streets. At the request of the Mayor, Mr. Hunsberger contacted Mr. Koczan, President of the Rum Village Businessmen's Association, regarding better street lighting on west Indiana Avenue from Main Street to Kemble Avenue, and after inspection, recommended changing the twelve lights in this area from 4000 lumen to 6000 lumen lights and also recommended new fixtures. The Board approved Mr. Hunsberger's recommendation for better lighting on west Indiana Avenue. The Fire Department;Injuries Report for the month of June 1953 and Captain's and Lieutenantts Daily Report runs made by Company No13 into German- Township, and Company No. 12, into Portage Township, under date of June 23rd, were examined by the Board and ordered filed.
