A regular meeting of the
Board of Public Safety was held TMonday,
June 1, 1953 at 10:00 A. M.
All members were present. Minutes of the
previous meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers,

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
The recommendation of Superintendent Ira Hunsberger for the instal -
_ation of one 4000 lumen light at each of the following four locations,
ias approved by the Board:
Rosemary Lane and Oak Park Drive
Rosemary Lane and Hartman Drive
Catalpa Street (immediately south
of the railroad tracks).
Sylvan Lane between Nos. 759 and 763.
A request for improved lighting from University Enterprises, Inc.
ras referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation and report.
IRE DEPARTMENT:
A letter from the Firemen's Pension Fund, under date of May 27th,
n regard to the employing of Attorney i';i. Edward Doran to represent the
rustees of the Pension Fund in the mandamus proceedings of Glenn A. Hess,
nd addressed to the Board for their information, was read and ordered
iled.
Chief Richard J. Duck, being present, reported upon the failure of
iceman Claude Borowski to report for duty, on a recent occasion, and the
isciplinary action taken by the Chief, penalizing Fireman Borowski to
he extent of loss of one week of vacation time for the current year.
he penalty,assessed by the Chief, met with the approval of the Board.
The quotation of the Kitchen Mart, addressed to Chief Duck, for the
refinishing of the kitchen at Central Fire Station for the sum of $179.00,
et with the Boardts approval and.the Clerk was directed to issue purchase
order accordingly.
The quotation, submitted by L. 0. Gates Chevrolet Corporation, of
'146.18 for the repair of 1951 Chevrolet of Fred Dupken, 1236 S. Olive
treet, damaged in accident involving Fire Department equipment, and
hick has been conceded to be the fault of the operator of the Fire
epartment equipment, was acceptable to the Board, and the Clerk was
irected to notify the L. 0. Gates Corporation to proceed with these
epairs. The Board requested, from Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, a
ritten report by the driver, to attach to the L. 0. Gates claim,
pon completion of this repair work, for added substantiation and in-
ormation of the State Board of Accounts auditors.

Chief Richard J. Gillen, being present, placed before the Board
a revised work schedule for the Police Department. The schedule was
examined and considered by the Board, and it was believed the im-
- proved schedule would be beneficial, both from the standpoint of
morale and - efficiency. The Board accordingly,,gave its consent to
the change in hourly schedule, as set forth in-the revision submitted
,by Chief Gillen, to become effective June 7, 1953.
The Police Auxiliary School Patrol application of Agnes H. Brainerd
was examined and ordered placed on file.
The offer of Ziker Cleaners to dry clean and store for the summer
vacation period, the uniforms of the Police - Auxiliary School Patrol,
at the same schedule of prices charged -for this service in 195, was
brought to the attention of the Board.- In consideration of the fact
that dry cleaning rates have, in general, increased in the past twelve
months, and the fact that Ziker Cleaners was the low bidder, among a
number of competitive bidders in 1952, and performed this service in
a manner entirely satisfactory to the department and the Board, it was
the decision of the Board to accept their offer, and the Clerk was
instructed to inform this firm accordingly.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 11 :30 A. M.
