SPECIAL MEETING
April 10, 1953
A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 11 :00
A. M. Friday, April 10, 1953, for the purpose of a hearing in the case
of Police Officer Thomas Grant, Jr., in accordance with decision made
in this matter at the previous regular meeting of the Board, Monday,
April 6, 1953. All members were present.
Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, was called upon
by the chairman of the Board to bring Officer Grant before the Board.
Officer Grant and Sgt. Robert Seals, representing the Fraternal Order of
Police, then appeared and Officer Grant was asked by chairman, Irving A.
Hurwich what statement he'might care to make with reference to the charges
for which he has been suspended. Officer Grant gave a detailed account
of his movements, admitting being away from his assigned territory and
late in arriving at the accident scene to which he had been called.
Chairman Hurwich then read the report, submitted over the signature of
Sgt. Leonard Krulewitch concerning Officer Grantfs suspension. Chairman
Hurwich then stated that Officer Grant's violation of Rule 19 was in-
excusable, pointing out the quasi- military basis on which all police
organizations must operate.

The hearing, having been concluded, the meeting was thereupon
journed, the time being 11 :45 A. M.
