The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:16 a.m. on Wednesday, August
18, 2010 with Board President Juanita Dempsey and Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce
BonDurant, Eddie Miller and Laura Vasquez present. Also present were Fire Chief Howard
Buchanon and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar.
The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13"' Floor County City
Building, South Bend, Indiana.
Board members discussed the following items from that list:
APPROVE HEARING DATE AND EXCHANGE OF WITNESSES EXHIBITS AND FILING OF
MOTIONS DEADLINES FOR CHARGES 2010 -05 — FIREFIGHTER JORDAN JOSTES
Attorney Thomas Bodnar stated charges had been filed and served on Firefighter Jordan Jostes, and
an e- mailed letter was received by the Clerk on August 11, 2010, from Mr. Jostes, requesting a
hearing. Mr. Bodnar informed those present that the Statute governing the setting of hearings gives
tight time restrictions, allowing fourteen (14) days for notice of hearing and no more than thirty (30)
days after the request for a hearing. Mr. Bodnar stated that gives a time frame of September 1, 2010
through September 18, 2010 for the hearing to be held, The Board agreed to meet on September 2,
2010 at 9:00 a.m. for an executive session and at 9:30 a.m. for the hearing. Upon a motion by Mr.
BonDurant, seconded by Mr. Miller and carried, the motion, as outlined by Mr. Bodnar, was
approved. Mr. BonDurant then made a motion that the hearing be set for September 2, 2010, at 9:30
a.m. Mr. Miller seconded the motion, which carried.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Board, President Dempsey declared the meeting
adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
