This work will fully complete the Island's renovation as originally intended. This funding request is for bistro type tables and chairs, benches, trash and ash receptacles, signage which will depict the river's history, and security fencing and lighting. The total project cost is $79,000. Staff feels the attached proposal to complete this prominent, highly visible City-owned asset as an entertainment destination, will enhance the quality of life for those who work, live, or visit the downtown and East Bank areas. Century Center Island Park, one of South Bend's major urban amenities, is now ready for use after undergoing major renovation and reconstruction, which began in May 2009. In order to complete the renovation work as it was originally intended, the Board of Managers request funding to allow for the following items to be added to the Island: OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS $65,000 (Quotes received by FORMS + SURFACES® and landscapeforms®) 11-benches (72"lg), 88-cafe chairs, 22-cafe tables (36"dia), 13-bistro tables (30"dia), 5-litter receptacles (36ga1), 2-recyle receptacles (36ga1), 3-ash urns INTERPRETIVE SIGNAGE $ 5,500 (Quote received by CA Studios/Sign Consultants) 2-zinc-etched plaques (20"x24") with steel supports depicting the island and river's history SECURITY FENCING and ACCESS GATES (Quote received by Custom Fencing, Inc.) 1"black vinyl-coated mesh fencing and access gates (8'hgt) located in two locations to replace the existing galvanized fence/gates located at the north end of the Island and at the top of the existing access drive east of the building $ 7,500 922 E. The items requested are intended to compliment the new design, and enhance the Island Park experience, while providing added security to safeguard the City's investment. Attachments for your reference include a Site Plan of Island Park, select cut-sheets of proposed furnishings, and an example of interpretive signage.
