Watchfire Signs has approved this solution and will honor their warranty. BSS will work with the city towards an agreeable design that satisfies the Historical significance of the Morris. Approval: Date: Burkhart Representative: Date: 0311512018 CITY OF SOUTH BEND DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION OF ENG11NEERING TO: Clara McDaniels, Assistant City Attorney FROM: Tara Weigand, Project Engineer /'I SUBJECT: Change Order for Project 11 7-070A MPAC Marquee Display Installation, DATE: March 16, 2018 Due to unforeseen circumstances, a substantial change order is required for the completion, of this project. Upon removing the existing LED display panels and the waterproofing membrane on the Morris Performing Arts Center marquee, it was discovered that the ventilation requirements for the new panels would not Ibe met without additional modifications to the marquee. These conditions were not known beforehand and significantly change the scope of the project. Initially, the project was intended to be limited to the removal of the existing display panels and the in -kind installation of new display panels. The work now includes modifications to the marquee structure as well, requiring the installation of two roof vents. The City was not able to obtain information from the original designer of the marquee and, as such, a structural engineer will need to be subcontracted to evaluate the existing structure and approve the proposed modifications. The Morris Performing Arts Center will be showing the Phantom of the Opera beginning March 28, 2018., It is critical that this work be completed prior to this date. The required modifications will cost an additional $ 15,600.00, an increase of 82% over the awarded contract amount of $ 19,000.00 for this project.
