White, Residential Neighborhoods Committee Chairperson Date: December 20, 2017 2017 Annual Report of the Residential Neighborhoods Committee As Chairperson of the South Bend Common Council's Residential Neighborhoods Committee, I am pleased to file the 2017 Annual Committee Report. This report sets forth a summary of the key activities conducted by the Residential Neighborhoods Committee for the 2017 year. This year the individuals serving on the Residential Neighborhoods Committee included: Council Member Karen White, Chairperson Council Member Jo Broden,Vice Chairperson Council Member Regina Williams-Preston Council Member John Voorde Duties: The Residential Neighborhoods Committee is one of the eleven standing committees of the Common Council. It oversees the various activities and issues related to neighborhood development and enhancement per the City Code. Meetings: The Residential Neighborhoods Committee, as of the date of this Annual Report, has met five (5)times this year. The "Residential Neighborhoods Committee held its organizational meeting on March 1, 2017. Some of the items discussed included: 1. A review of the 2016 Annual Report of the Residential Neighborhoods Committee filed by last year's Chairperson Council Member Karen White. 2. Discussion of goals and objectives for the committee for the 2017 year. 3. Importance of ensuring the 2017 City Budget reflected the Council's budget priorities. 4. Key committee focus would be on the quality of life for neighborhoods and working with the Neighborhoods Resource Connection (NRC) group. 5. Discussion and proposed scheduling of Neighborhood Walks Schedule. Three districts walking tours were proposed. 2. Committee members attended Environment Protection Agency (EPA) meeting regarding LaSalle Park/Beck's Lake status. 3. Attended Community Forum on the issues surrounding Lead Prisoning. It was reported and discussed that there is a high percentage of childhood lead exposure on the city's near northwest side. 4. The Administration gave an update on "Light Up South Bend" initiative. 5. Discussed the importance of increasing in the City's Budget additional funding for sidewalks and curbs and the "Light Up South Bend" initiatives. The Residential Neighborhoods Committee will continue to focus on our neighborhoods and quality of life issues. In addition, we will work more closely with Community Investment in regards to the various planning initiatives/plans that directly impact our neighborhoods.
