HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/24/1927 Board of Public Works Minutes435 Wednesday, August 24th., I927. Board of Works met in regular session at 7-I5 P. M. All members present. This being the date set, hearings were had on the following improvement resolutions; Improvement Resolution No.I907 for the construction. of grade, curb and walk on Huey Street from the north line of Lot 350 Marquette Heights Addition'to Hamilton Street. Improvement resolution No.I909 for the construction of pavement on Mam Street from Ewing Avenue tp South line of Fairview Avenue under Improvement Resolti.on No.1909. I� Improvement Resolution No.I908 for the pavement on Kendall Street , from Indiana Avenue to T. H. & L R. R. Pavement on Newcome Street from the West line of Made Street to east line of Kaley Street. II In all of the above named improvement resolutions, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrance was filed, and the Board being fully advised in the premised, finds that the benefits to the several lots and parcels of land liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost of same as reported by the City Engineer, and that the improvements are necessary. The Board, therefore, decides to take final action on the above named improvement resolutions, declaring same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved, without modification. The Board now orders that on the "13.tij der of September, I927,. this Board will receive, open and consider sealed proposals at 7-I5 P. If., for the construction of the above named improvements. Board further orders that notices of said proposals shall be published in the South Bend News Times and Tribune on the tend«,clar Q.Z. and on the 9th..,, day of September, 1927. j A r This iaeing the date set, hearings were had on the following named improveme resolutions: Improvement Resolution No.I9II for the pavement of the alley north of Napol eon Boulevard from Leeper Avenue to the first alley east of Stanfield Street. j r Improvement Resolution No.I9I0 for the pavement of Nash Court from Sample street to a point 628 feet south. In. both of the above named improvement resolutions, remonstrators appeared � and written remonstrances were filed and the Board being fully advised in the premises, over rules the remonstrances, and finds that the benefits to the several lots and parcel; of land liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost of , same as reported by the City Engineer and that the improvements are necessary. The Board, therefore, takes final action on same declaring said improvement resolutions in j all things ratified, confirmed and approved. The Board orders the written remonstrances j! against said improvements referred to the City Engineer for final check up. j This being the date set, hearing was had on improvement Resolution No.I9I3 !i for the pavement of Division Street from Parry Street to Eddy Street. !I In the above named improvement resolution, J. Elmer Peak, attorney, was present in the interetts of the sole property owner affected by said improvement, protesj ing against the improvement. After due consideration, the Board decides to continue the hearing on said resolution until August 3lst., I927 at 7-I5 P. M. This being the date set, hearing was had on Improvement Resolution No.I9I4� for the construction of a sewer on Ewing Avenue from Leer Street to Ernsperger Street. In the above named resolution, no remonstrators appeared and no -,,written remonstrance was filed, and the Board being duly advised in the premises, finds that 1 the several lots and parcels of land liable to be assessed for said improvement, are equal to the estimated cost of same as reported by the City Engineer, and that the j improvement is necessary. The Board therefore, takes final action on s add resolution 1; dellarin same in all thin s ratified confirmed and approved. �� g g . PP The Board now orders that on the 7th. , day of September, 1927, at 7-I5 P. M. this Board will receive, open and consider sealed proposals for the construction of said sewer as named in improvement resolution No.I9I4. Board further orders that notice of said porposals shall be published in the South Bend News Times and Tribune on the 26th., day of August and on the 2nd., day of September, 1927. This being the date set, hearing was had on Condemnation Resolution No.I9I5 for the opening of Palmer Boulevard. In the above named condemnation resolution, aveilal remonstrators appeared and the Board being fully advised in the premises, takes final action on said condemna- tion resolution, confirming without modification, all former action taken on said • resolution and declares same in all things ratified, conftj?med and approved. And the Board now orders that a list or roll be prepared of all o-ners or holders of property and of all valuable interests therein sought to be taken Ir to be injuriously affected, which list or roll shall also describe the property beneficially affected. In the above matter, no remonstrators appeared and no wkttten remonstrance ."was filed, and the Board being fully advised in the premises, takes final action on said Vacation Resolution No.I904, confirming without modification, said Vacation Resolution,I1 and declaring same in all thing ratified, confirmed and approved. And the Board now orders that a list or roll be prepared of all owners or holders of property and of all valuable interests therein sought to be taken or to be injuriously affected by said vacation, which list or roll shall also describe the property beneficially affected, j The Board approved the Guarantee Bond of Alex Bukowski for the Hoose Court pavement under Improvement Resolution No.I8II. Board signed same in the amount of 227.33 which is 10% of the amount due the contractor, the bond being signed by United States Fidelity and Ruaranty Company. is The Board approved the Guarantee Bond of John•F" Hipskind for the i construction of sewers in Beale, Bryan, Rose and Roosevelt Streets under Improvement Resolution No.1782. Board approved same in the amount of 3,532.99, which is 10% y of the amount due the contractor, signed by the Inland Bonding Co. 'I The Board signed the contract with Aehille C. Colpaert for the construct ion of concrete pavement on the Alleys in Summit Place Addition under Improvement Resole tion No.I88I. Board also approved the construction bond for same in the amount of I0,087.601, which is I00) of the contract price, signed by the Metropolitan Casualty Co. The Board signed the contract with H. L. Davis & Son for the construction of gradem curb and walk on the south side of Donmoyer Avenue from Michigan Street to . Fellows Street under Improvement Resolution No.I930. Board signed and approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 2,I86.00 irhich is I001"' of the contract price,; signed by the Metropolitan Casualty Co., of New York. The Board signed the contract with the Albert Construction Co. font the construction of pavement on Haley Street from Division Street to Colfax Avenue under; Improvement Resolution No.I885. Board also approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 6,5I0.50, which is 50 0 of the contract price, signed by the Inland Bonding Co. The Board signed the contract with the Albert Construction Co., for the construction of pavement on Holland Street from the west line of Meade Street to East line of Ka,ley Street under Improvement Resolution No.I895. Board approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 2,054.90, which is 50% of the contract price,; signed by the Inland Bonding Co. The Board signed the contract with the Albert Construction Co., for the construction of pavement on Washington Avenue from West line of Made Street to east line of Kaley Street under Improvement Resolution No.I892. Board approved the construction bond of same in the amount of 2, 962. 20, ;Vhich is 50 j of the contract price signed by the Inland Bonding Co. City Engineer, Mr. g.:. The Board, therefore takes final action on said assessment rolls, declaring same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved and the proceedings closed. The Board now orders said assessment rolls delivered to the department of finance. This being the date set, hearing was had on the assessment roll for the pipe sewer on Orange Street from College Street to a point 40 feet westc of E. line of lot 24 College Grove Addition under Improvement Resolution No.I796. In the above named assessment roll, one remonstrator appeared requesting the Board to continue the hearing for one week. After due consideration the Board decides to continue hearing on this assessment roll until August 3Ist., 927.91 at 7-I5 II P. Y'. City Engineer, Mr. H.
