ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT., An excavation bond in the amount of $1000.00 eras received for
Harry Nicodemus. A continuation certificate was received for Thilman Bros., for their
excavation bond. A continuation certificate for the excavation bond for Arthur W.
Deppert was received. These bonds and certificates were approved and ordered filed.'
Grades -were established on the alley south of Jennings St., from Main St. to Michi;
St., also on the alley West of Michigan St., from Dean St. to Jennings.St.
The Board approved the plan for a 161 driveway for the new Kroger Store on the No
East corner of Indiana Ave., and Michigan -St. This driveris on Indiana Ave., adjacent
the alley East of Michigan St.
ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT: It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that a 4000 lumen
light be installed at the entrance to the Studebaker Plant on Eckman St., and that the
City Engineer contact the Pennsylvania Railroad, relative to the installation of a
4000 lumen light at their crossing at Eckman St.
STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Tony Zmudzinski, Street Commissioner was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.
The.Engineering Department and the Street Department submitted specifications for
the purchase of one power driven grader for use in the Street Department. The specifi-
cations are now approved and adopted by the Board. The Clerk is now instructed to
advertise for bids in the Mirror and the South Bend Tribune on December 27, 1940 and Jan
uary 3rd, 1941. Bids to be received on January 13th, 1941.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at
12:10 P. M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, December 23,
1940 at 9:00 A. M. All ::members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read
and,approved. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $8758.04 were approv
and -ordered paid.

In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in
the City Hall at 10:00 A. Til. on January 13th, 1941, for the purpose of hearing and re-
ceiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said Vacation Re-
solution No. 2503, and the Board further orders that notices of said hearing be ad-
vertised in two newspapers in South Bend, on December 26, 1940 and January 3, 1941, and
that notices together with the amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be
addressed to the property owners according to law.

Continuation certificates on the following excavation bonds were received.
Samuel Slutsky, J. B. Fleck & Sons, Rocco Simeri and A. W. Deppert. These certifi-
cates -were approved and ordered filed.
A meeting was held with Alex Langel, Portage Township Trustee and his attorney,
Alfred E. Martin, for the purpose of signing a contract for contribution of the Trustee
to the W.P.A. projects sponsered by the City during the year 1941. Copy of this contrac
is placed in our files.
Mr. R. Edward Smith, Superintendent of buildings and grounds for the School City

was granted permission to remove the top soil from the thirty foot of unp-aved roadway
area between Teyckenham Dr., and Greenlawn Ave. This permission was granted in a letter
dated December 27, 1940 and signed by Ib7r. Williams, Chairman.
ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Qualls reported the installation of lights as follows: 1
6000 lumen light, building fixture underground service on the northwest corner of
the Central Fire.Station building at Wayne and St. Joseph Sts.
Changing lamp #J259-1544 from 4000 lumen to 6000 lumen. This lamp is located
at the intersection of the City Hall Ct., and Polk Street at the Police Station.
