The Independent Concrete ripe Co. having submitted the lowest bid are herewith
awarded the contract for the 0-75-35 and C-76-37 p1pe,
ELECTRIC DEPARTSIENT: A petition for a street light at the intersection of Wilbur St.,
and Eongley 3t., was received, which petition was turned over to Mr. Qualls for in-
vestigation.
Upon the recommendation of:Mr..Qualls, a street light will be installed at the
intersection of Arnold St., and Indiana Ave. This is to be a 2500 lumen light.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at 10:30 A. M.

MEETING -- October 7, 1940.
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, October 7„ 1940
at 9:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of -the last meeting *ere read and
approved. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $184.56 were approved
and ordered paid.

STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Tony Zmudzinski, Street Commissioner was present and matters
pertaining to his department were discussed.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A petition for the vacation of the alley extending East and
West from Prances St., to Eddy St., one block north of Corby St., which petition was
turned over to the Engineering Department for investigation.
A contractorts bond for $1000.00 was received for R. D. Edwards, which' -bond was �
approved and ordered filed.
The Board approved the proposed driveway repairs for the filling station at the
Southeast corner of Clover St., and Mishawaka Ave., as submitted by J. Fred Christman.
These proposed repairs are in accordance with the driveway requirements adopted by
the Board.
The Board approved the proposed remodeling of the building at 1902 S. Mains St.
occupied'by the General Sheet Metal Works, as per plans submitted to the Board by the
Hay-1.7e aver Co.
Mr. 'Williams reported that he had been advised by Mr. T. W. Tinkham, Bendix
Aviation Corporation, that they were making other provisions for the disposal of the
objectionalwwaste now being disposed of at the Becks Lake Dump. These new facilities
will require some time for installation.

0 DEPAR NT: Mr. Wm. Qualls was present and matters pertaining to his depart-
ment were discussed.
On the recommendation of Mr. 1m. Qualls, a street light will be installed at the
intersection of Wilbut and Longley St._ This will be a 1000 lumen light.
A request having been made by George Wheelock & Co., to turn off two street lights;
one in front of the Wheelock store and the other directly across the street, on Thurs-
day, October 17, 1940 for the purpose of a special window display called "Black Night",
and the Board having obtained a report from Mr. Qualls and also having called Mr. Van
Horne, the jeweler, whose business establishment is directly across the street from

the Wheelock store, and Mr. Van Horne having disapproved turning out the light in front
of his place of business, the Board wishing to cooperate with Wheelock & Co., approved
of turning out the light in front of the Wheelock store and also placing a shield on
the light across the street so that the.rays from this light would not reflect on the
Wheelock store.
A letter was written to the Indiana-& Michigan Electric Co., advising them of this
request and the action of the Board, and also. -advising them that any expense envolved
would be assumed by Geo. Wheelock & Co
CEMETERY DEPEU.TMENT: Mr. Lisle McNabb filed his re-1.ort for the ,month of September,
1940, which report was ordered filed.'
The Board directs that the City Hall offices be closed_in commemoration of Columbus
Day, on October 12th.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at10:30A.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, October 14,
1940 at 9:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved. Salary claims in the amount of $6,783.10 were approved, and ordered
