SPECIAL TYTEETIG -- JANUARY 18, 1940
A special meeting was held for further consideration of the appeal by the United
States Hoffman Machinery Corporation for permit to install dry cleaning equipment at
217 E. Jefferson Blvd.yThis being an appeal from the decision of the Building Commis-
sioner not to issue a permit.
The Board having; been informed by the Building Comriissioner and the Fire Chief
that, an inspection of the building had been made by the Fire Ti1arshall r s office of
the State of Indiana, and that the Fire 11"arshallts office would grant a permit for
the installation of this equipment on these premises, provided certain specific
alterations and improvements in the building were made.
The Board now grants the appeal of the applicant for permit and directs the
.Building Commissioner to issue a permit for the.installation at #217 E. Jefferson
Blvd., provided; that all of the recommendations of the State Fire Mlarshallts office
have been complied with. That a permit has been obtained from the State Fire
Marshall for the installation of this equipment in the building, and further that
the applicant file with the Building Comissoner, an affidavit as to the use of the
second floor of the building, stating it is not in use and will not be used, during
the gontinuation of the use of,the solvent, for residentual purposes, or for any
other purpose by any other than the one to whom the permit was issued, and that the
operators of the dry cleaning establishment to be located at this address, shall use
only what is commercially in-iown as "140 F Solvent".
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at 5!45 P. TAT.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public ,;forks was held on T.Tonday, January 22,
1940 at 9.:00. A. T.T. All members oere present. Minutes of the last meeting were
read and approved. Salary claims in the amount of $748.09 were approved and ordered
paid. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $600.41 were approved and
ordered paid.

The following claims to be paid out of the Special VV.P.A. fund. or the Interceptor

STREET DEPARIT1=111: Street Corp-nissioner, Ti:r. Zmudzinsici eras Dresent and business
pretaining to his department was discussed.
The question of replacing Street Department equipment, which is beyond repair
was ?�rught up before the Board. This equipment includes t��ro half ton trucks and one
Dne--end one-half ton truck.
The contract presented by the TTeCaffery Co., 'for the purejase of Incandescent
Latps for the year 1940 was approved and ordered filed.
The City Engineer was authorized to contact the County Highway Officials -relative
to the maintenance of the rliami Street Hill.
Ernest T. Tranbergts claim for repairs to his car caused by hitting a depression
in the pavement while driving on East Jefferson St., was again presented to the Board
and again denied.
Tyr. 'iVilliatns ras requested by the Board to contact the Blue Lines, Inc., with reg
to having them.install a telephone under their name to relieve the congestion which
now exists, due to the .fact that there are too many departments now using; the street
department telephone.
