The Street Commissioner stressed the hazardous condition existing at the Beck's Lake Dump, due to men and boys riding on the Bendix trucks arriving at the dump to be unloaded. The Board authorized the Clerk to send the following letter to the Plant Superintendent at Bendix: • ''Our attention has been called to the hazardous conditions that exist when your trucks haul refuse to the Beck's Lake dump. It seems that as your trucks approach the dump, youngsters living in the vicinity'of the dump climb on these "trucks in search of valuable refuse. The boxes containing the refuse are shoved off the trucks before they reach the designated dumping place. ij In the ?~lad scramble to bet on the truces and to shove the boxes off, there is grave danger of thes; youngsters being injured. It is reported that a youngster was killed a few years ago, and another had his leg broken just recently because of this condition. Also the dumping of refuse before it reaches the designated dumping place makes it more difficult to maintain the dumping ground, and loose paper and other light material is blown about the community creating a nuisance. The Board -of Public Works and Safety urges: you to take whatever steps are necessary to eliminate the conditions as outlined above. A communitation from you as to what steps have been taken will be appreciated." The,Board of Public 'orks approved the establishing of grade on the alley bed een Woodland Ave . , and Boulevard Park Addition, from.
