ibTEETING--APRIL 17, 1939
Regular meeting of the Board of P„blic Norks was held on Monday, April 17, 1939,
at 9:15 A.Tii. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of �?16,635.94 were approved
and ordered raid:

following letter was addressed to T,1Ir. Alex Portage Township Trustee
and a copy was sent to Harry B. poach, District Director of `edPA concerning projects
within the city of South Bend:
"The State Highwav Commission and the city of South. Bend are cosponsors
on considerable sJPA wor being _erfcrmed in the citj% of South Bend at the
present time, which ,cork will continue throu-1hout the spring and s=er
months. These projects are primarily street improvement projects on streets
over which state highways are routed throu;-;h the city of South :,'--)'end.

is required to furnish materials, we feel that we are entitled to receive
the t6.75 Tier man per menth certified frog_ the relief rolls of Portage Town -
shin and emploTred on these rro jects. Ne believe also that sI_nce the projects
are being; sponsored b,t the city- as cosponsor, that we are entitled to have
Portage Township r, en erployed on these fro jects in order that we may receive
the maximum benefits under our contract and in order ILIhat the citizens of the
city of South Bend may be employed on -rojects sponsored by the city."
ELECTRICAL DEPARTT:T'ENT: �rr,
P;Tr. Barnes appeared before the Board and estinated the cost of rewiring the City
Hall at approximately "'130.00 based on an hourly rate.
/Mr. Qualls made a report concerning a complaint which we had previously received
to the effect that the street lights at the intersect -on of Longley and Brookfield and
Brookfield and Vassar were obstructed by trees and reported that the light was not
obstructed at either intersect ton at the present tire.
/TvIr. -Qualls reported that the cab on the Electric Department truck was damaged by
wind and that the truck had been taken to t he slater j'orks Garage for repair.

Jlpon Motion duly made and seconded, the Drogrnm of working out and authoriziT
purchase of -insurance was delegated to the City Controller.
