Hast.igs --and 32nd Street, advising that his investigation showed this area to be in need of a light. The Board concurred in his -recommendation -and orders were .issued to have same installed. VA petition signed by 21 residents on East Victoria -Street was presented to the Board, requesting that a light be established at. Victoria Street and Leer Street. This matter was referred to Mr. -Qualls for investigation and recommendation. '/A petition signed by 6 residents was presented -to the Board, requesting that the alley' from Lindsey `Street to Van Buren between Cottage Grove and Cushing Street be graded. This matter was referred to the Street Depattment for investigation and at tention. ✓A petition- asking that South Webster Street from West Indiana to Edwards Street be graded and cindered-was _presented to the Board and referred to the Street Depart- ment for attention- - � Mr. Robert Swintz presented a plan showing ep,ts in curb requested- at Blaine Ave- nue on Humboldt. The plan as presented and signed was approved by the Board. ✓City Civil Engineer,. Frederick J..Anderson, filed plans and the Board adopted aai( plans together with, the following Condzimation Resolutkor CONDEMNATIONRESOLUTIONNO. 2496 RESOLVED.BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That the following described property be appropriated for the use of said city: ALLEY EAST OF FRANCES STREET from St. Vincent Street to the Alley North of St. Vincent'Street mores particularly described as follows: Beginning -at the south east corner of lot 46 Sorin's 2nd addition, thence north along the east- line of lots 46, 45 and 44 to the north east cor- ner of daid lot 44 in Sorin's 2nd Addition, thence east to the north west cor- ner of lot 38 Sorin's 2nd Addition, a distance of 14 feet, thence south along the west line of lots 38, 39 and--40 Sorin•s- 2vd Addition, to the south west corner of said lot -40, thence west 14 feet to the south east corner of lot 46 Sorin's 2nd Addition the place of beginning. The following described property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by suet appropriation: Addition: Lots 35, 56, 379 38, 39, 40, 41, 420 43, 44, 45, 46 in Sorin's 2nd The purpose of such appropriation is for the opening of alley between Eddy and Francis Street from St. Vincent Street to the alley north. Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 14th day of June and on the 21st day of June, 1938, in the South Bend Tribune and South Bend News -Times. This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 27th day of June, 1938, at I0:3O A. M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or af- fected by these proceedings. The • Clerk was instructed to investigate the matter and report to the Board. The Board approved insurance policy covering fire and theft on Cemetery Depart- ment for one year from June 5 1.938. ✓The Board approved insurance policy covering fire and. theft -insurance on; Ford truck used in the Engineering Department for one year from June 5, 1938.' ✓A franchise bond in favor of the. Indiana Bell Telephone Company for one year from June 1, 19,38, was approved. ,/Continuation Certificate covering Excavation Bond in favor of Samuel:J. Frame • was approved by the Board. /A.communication was received from Haydn R. Jones-, requesting the establish- ment ofa street -light at or near the corner of Johnson and Marquette Blvd. This matter was referred: to Mr. Qualls for recommendation and investigation.
