MEETING August 16, 1937
Regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, August 16,
19371 at 10:15 A. M. Mr. Woodward was absent.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Claims in the amount of $2,748.47, from the following suppliers, were approved
and ordered paid.

A delegation of residents in the vicinity between Olive Street and Nash
Street, north of Prairie Avenue, was present in regard to their petition for an
extension of the route of the Rum Village bus line to Olive Street. Mr. R. R.
Smith, President of the South Bend Motor Bus Company, was also present and
requested consent and authority of the Board to change the route of its Rum
Village line, as follows:
"From Court House to the corner of Indiana Avenue and Chapin
Street over the present route thence over Chapin Street to
Calvert Street over Calvert Street to Kemble Avenue over
Kemble.Avenue to Indiana Avenue over Indiana Avenue to Nash
Street over Nash Street to Prairie Avenue over Prairie Avenue
to Dubail Avenue over Dubail Avenue to Kemble Avenue to Calvert
Street over Calvert Street to Chapin Street over Chapin Street
to Indiana Avenue and then to return'to Court House over the
present route."
"This extension of bus service to be a ninety day trial operation and if the
proposed line should fail to take in sufficient revenue to meet the operating

expenses, the Motor Bus Company shall have the right to suspend the service."
After discussion, it was decided to hold the matter over for one week, so that
further investigation could be made by members of the Board with Mr. R. R. Smith.
✓ Continuation certificates covering contractor's bonds in favor -of Octave
Van Den Borre & Son and Camille Van Den Borre & Son were approved by the Board.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 A. M.
