Regular meeting of the Board. of Public Works was held Monday, January 18, 1937, at
10:30 A. M. Mr. Woodward was absent
Minutes of the previous

read and approved.

The City Attorney reported that he had carefully investigated the damage to car
owned by Peter J. Barkowski, who struck_a manhole on East Calvert Street, and that
adjustment had been made in this matter by having Mr. Barkowski's car fixed in the
Street Department.
The Board gave instructions to have Lushion Carter, one of the janitors, appear
before the Board. next Monday, as some had been received regarding his work in
the City Hall. complaints MEW
Bids were considered to repair the No. 2 boiler in the City Hall by the replace-
ment of a full set of boiler tubes and cleaning out boiler, repairing brick work and
repairing end hand plates from Edwards Iron Works of $250.00 and Bock Welding & Boiler
Works $244.50. The contract was awarded to Bock Welding & Boiler Works and instruc-
tions given to proceed with the work immediately.
Pursuant to advertising in the newspapers, under dates of January 7th and 14th, •
bids were received for the installation of a new boiler in the Central Fire Station
and the removal of the old boiler, as per specifications submitted by the Mayor.
These bids were -as follows:

After considering all bids and a consultation with the Mayor, it was decided to award
this i!�iork to the Fredericks Plumbing & Heating Company, and the City Attorney was •
requested to draw up the contract, and work to be begun immediately.
Certification of plans and specifications filed with the Administrative Building
Council of Indiana at Indianapolis by Maurer & Maurer, Architects, was approved by
the State Inspecting Architects and this certificate is placed on file in the Board
of Public Works.
Application for work as janitor for work in the City Hall was received from
Leslie Morning, 1122 Bissell Street, who has lived in South Bend since 1914.
Continuation certificate covering excavation bond in favor of C. S. Randolph was
filed with original bond.
The following re -spread of assessment was offered by the City Civil Engineer and
approved by the Board, and ordered delivered to the Controller:

Janes H. Pierce,who has the contract for garbage removal, gave his report for
the work done during the year 1936, stating that he had removed 4,281 loads of garbage
from the City.
Communication was received from the Kosciuszko Civic Club petitioning the Board
of Works to do all in its povs,er to bring about a speedy completion of the track
elevation program as regards Arnold Street. This communication was ordered placed
• on file.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A. M.
